Nepal has unveiled their 17-member squad for the upcoming 2023 Asia Cup, and the roster includes spinner Sandeep Lamichhane. This marks Nepal’s inaugural appearance in the Asia Cup, set to be co-hosted by Sri Lanka and Pakistan, starting from August 30.
Rohit Paudel, a young prodigy recognized for his leadership abilities and exceptional skills, will captain the Nepalese team. The squad features prominent players like Asif Sheikh, Kusal Bhurtel, and Kushal Malla, who are expected to enhance Nepal’s batting strength. In terms of bowling, the selection of Sandeep Lamichhane, Karan KC, and Sompal Kami emphasizes Nepal’s dedication to fielding a competitive and well-rounded team.
Lamichhane’s presence is notable in the 17-member squad as well. He faced suspension in September last year due to an arrest warrant issued against him in Kathmandu regarding an alleged coercion case involving another individual. After securing bail amounting to approximately USD 15,300, his ban was eventually lifted in February of this year.
Nepal’s inaugural match is scheduled against Pakistan on August 30th in Multan, marking the commencement of the tournament. This will be followed by a match against India on September 4th in Kandy, Sri Lanka. Being placed in Group A alongside cricket powerhouses India and Pakistan poses an intriguing challenge for the Nepalese team.
The announcement of the 17-member squad has ignited considerable enthusiasm among cricket enthusiasts in Nepal and beyond. This tournament serves as a significant platform for Nepal to exhibit its cricketing skills and leave a memorable mark on the global cricketing arena.
