One of India’s finest pace bowlers Jasprit Bumrah made his IPL debut in 2015 with Mumbai Indians. An unorthodox fast bowler with a short run-up and bowling at 140+ speed constantly was the eye-catching feature of Bumrah. The fast bowler rose to success within a short period as his selection to the Indian team was at an eye blink process. He made his Indian national team debut in January 2016.
However, former Indian batter-wicketkeeper and ex-Royal Challengers Bangalore player, Parthiv Patel, discussed the behind story of Bumrah, before he achieved such heights. Since Parthiv Patel was the leader of the side Gujarat in the Ranji Trophy and Jasprit Bumrah used to play under him.
Parthiv Patel recalled the moment in 2014 when he asked Royal Challengers Bangalore captain ( Virat Kohli) to have a look at the young bowler full of determination and hard work for achieving success. However, Virat Kohli laughed it off saying, ” Chodd Na yrr Yeh Bumrah Vumrah kya krege” and then moved on from this conversation.
All the RCB fans just imagine the moment if Virat Kohli had then accepted this new bowler and picked him up in the squad. Then, probably RCB would not have suffered so many obstacles while defending the totals. It could have been their next big buy ever after Virat Kohli and AB de Villiers.
How Virat Kohli Backed Jasprit Bumrah?
Although, Jasprit Bumrah made his international debut under MS Dhoni, the fast bowler grew exceptionally well under Virat Kohli’s captaincy. Even, the fast bowler himself has admired the captain Virat Kohli. Jasprit Bumrah against West Indies in a test in 2019, revealed how Virat Kohli’s belief in his fast bowler gives him and other bowlers the self-belief to try out new things.
Virat Kohli also admires the fast bowler a lot and never stays behind to replicate the pacer’s bowling action either on the field or off-field. These moments are pure joy to every cricket fans eyes.
Nevertheless, Jasprit Bumrah went on to take over India’s pace attack. Moreover, he was recently named as the vice-captain of Indian test team against Sri Lanka. Bumrah’s figures are astonishing for a fast bowler. He has 123 test wickets merely in 29 tests and 67 wickets in T20 cricket in 57 matches.
Also, Bumrah is the fastest Indian to take 50 test wickets and a hattrick to his name which adds more glory to his reputation.
