The United States of America (USA) has made it to the Super 8 of the T20 World Cup 2024. At the same time, the Pakistan team was eliminated. The Indian team had already made it to the playoffs from Group-A. Pakistan has to play their last match against Ireland, the result of which will not matter now.
The match between USA and Ireland was scheduled on June 14 in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, but could not happen due to rain and wet outfield. With the match being canceled, USA made it to the Super 8. At the same time, the Pakistan team was eliminated. Not only this, along with Pakistan, the teams of Canada and Ireland are also completely out of the Super 8 race.
The match was to be held at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium in Florida, but due to rain the ground conditions were so bad that even the toss could not be possible. America is the sixth team to reach the Super 8. India, Australia, South Africa, West Indies and Afghanistan have already reached the playoffs. That is, so far six teams have reached the Super 8 and only two spots are left.
Due to the match between America and Ireland being washed out, both the teams got 1-1 points. In this way, the American team got 5 points and it qualified for the Super-8. Now even if the Pakistani team wins its last match against Ireland on June 16, it will still be able to reach only 4 points. However, there is a possibility of that match also being washed out.
At present, the Indian team is at the top of the Group-A points table with 6 points and it has qualified for the Super 8. While the American team is at the second position with 5 points and it has also entered the Super 8. America had defeated Pakistan and Canada, while it lost to India. Pakistan team is at the third position with 2 points. After this comes Canada and Ireland.
The ground staff worked very hard to conduct the Ireland-USA match. The umpires conducted surprise inspections of the ground several times. When the umpires came for inspection at 10.45 minutes as per Indian time, hopes of the match being held were raised. But then it started raining after a while. After this, the umpires and match referee Javagal Srinath thought it appropriate to cancel the match.

USA has achieved a special feat by reaching the Super-8. This is the seventh time that an associate team has made it to the Super Stage (8/10/12) of the T20 World Cup. Earlier, the teams of Ireland (2009), Netherlands (2014 and 2022), Afghanistan (2016), Namibia (2021) and Scotland (2021) have done so.
