Pakw vs Banw, Match 12 of 31 of ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022 in New Zealand, was an absolute thriller that had the cricket community hooked till the very end.

Despite Sidra Ameen’s brilliant hundred, Pakistan Women failed to chase down Bangladesh’s 234 runs. Bangla Women won the match by 9 runs after restricting Pak Women on only 225-9 in their 50 overs.

With this win, Bangladesh has registered their first win of the tournament and moved up at 6th position in the points table, while Pakistan have lost four in a row to occupy the last spot in the points table with a net run-rate of -0.996.

    PAKW VS BANW highlights:

    Bangladeshi Innings:

Bangladesh started positively with both the openers, Sultana (17) and Akhter (44), negotiating well against the Pak attack. The duo collected 37 runs for the first wicket.

Akhter then combined with Fargana Hoque (71), who played a notable role in Bangla women’s historic win. The captain for Bangladesh, Nigar (46), too played a handy knock as the Bangladeshi top-four chipped in with significant contributions.

Nashra Sandhu picked up three wickets for Pakistan to ensure that Bangladesh didn’t run away with the game.

    Pakistani Innings:

Chasing 225, Pakistan appeared extremely comfortable as Nahida Khan (43), and Sidra Ameen (104) formed a 91 run stand for the first wicket.

Pakistan looked in complete control throughout most of the chase, with Ameen playing the role of an anchor with utmost precision.

Captain Maroof too played a good knock of 31, but after her departure, a flurry of wickets dented the chance for Pakistan to capitalise on Ameen’s knock and grasp their first win of the tournament.

They lost 8 wickets in the span of 61 runs from 155 to 215. Sidra Ameen’s run out in the 48th over was the nail in the coffin for Pakistan’s innings.

    Player of the match:

Fahim Khatun for picking up 3 crucial wickets in the 8 overs.
