In a recent accolade, R Ashwin has acclaimed KL Rahul’s adeptness in effortlessly filling the gap left by the retirements of MS Dhoni and Yuvraj Singh. Expressing his sentiment, Ashwin has emphasized that Rahul’s proficiency has seamlessly stepped in to address the void created by the departures of two cricketing stalwarts.

Ashwin, with conviction, has proposed that KL Rahul be entrusted with the pivotal number five spot in the Indian cricket lineup for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023.

Rahul’s outstanding performance at the number five position for India serves as a solid foundation for Ashwin’s endorsement. Boasting an impressive record of amassing 742 runs from 18 ODIs, boasting an average exceeding 50, Rahul has unequivocally demonstrated his versatility and prowess as a cricketer.

Undeterred by a minor injury, Rahul exhibited unwavering dedication to undergo rigorous rehabilitation, ensuring his preparedness for the imminent challenges of the Asia Cup and the subsequent World Cup. This perseverance rightfully earned Rahul a well-deserved position in the 17-member squad set to participate in the Asia Cup.

In his commentary on his YouTube channel, Ashwin underscored the protracted quest for a reliable middle-order batsman within the Indian team. He articulated, “Ever since the retirements of Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni, India has been on the hunt for their successors.” Ashwin affirmed that Rahul has aptly occupied that role with finesse. He added, “As both our wicketkeeper-batsman and a steadfast presence at the number five slot, he has firmly secured his place.”

Despite a lingering concern over a minor injury, Ashwin remains optimistic about Rahul’s readiness for the tournament’s inaugural match. He shared, “Prior to Rishabh Pant’s injury, Rahul was next in line. And now, with Ishan Kishan assuming the role of second-choice keeper, Rahul has taken up the mantle with resolve. While he might be nursing a minor discomfort, we anticipate his availability for the first match. Should any unforeseen circumstance arise, we have the advantage of traveling with Sanju Samson, as our 18-member squad encompasses contingencies,” he concluded.
