Rahul Dravid to be Removed from India Head Coach Position? BCCI Did Not Finalise the Contract

While Rahul Dravid is set to continue as the head coach of the Indian cricket team for another season, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has not finalized a long-term deal for the coaching staff head. Despite guiding the Indian side to the runner-up position in the 2023 ICC World Cup, Dravid’s extended tenure is yet to be formalized.

The BCCI offered Dravid an extension a day before announcing India’s squad for the upcoming events. Although Dravid replaced Ravi Shastri as head coach in 2021, his current contract is still pending formalization. Under Dravid’s guidance, Rohit Sharma’s Team India achieved notable successes, reaching the T20 World Cup semi-final and retaining the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. However, the BCCI is yet to finalize Dravid’s contract despite the extension.

Speaking after a World Cup and contract review meeting in December, Dravid mentioned discussions about his tenure with the BCCI but clarified that he has not yet signed a contract. The BCCI secretary, Jay Shah, highlighted that although the extension has been granted, the contract details are yet to be finalized due to time constraints, and decisions will be made upon Dravid and the team’s return from South Africa.

Additionally, Shah shared plans about launching a new National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore, along with new academies in the Northeast and Jammu & Kashmir, set to be inaugurated in mid-August. Work on the Jammu and Kashmir academy has already commenced.
