Afghanistan Cricket Board has confirmed that Rashid Khan has replaced Mohammad Nabi as national team captain in T20Is. Rashid, who is one of the top-ranked T20 bowlers in the world, has led Afghanistan in a few matches in the past, but this will be his first stint as full-time T20I captain.
Nabi, who has been a stalwart of Afghanistan cricket for over a decade, will continue to be an integral part of the team as a player. He has captained Afghanistan in T20Is since 2016.

The decision to appoint Rashid as captain was taken after a thorough review of Afghanistan’s performances in the recently concluded World Cup 2022. The team has struggled in the T20I format in recent years, and the Cricket Board believes that Rashid’s leadership skills and on-field prowess will help turn things around.
Rashid, who is just 24 years old, is widely regarded as one of the brightest talents in international cricket. He has taken over 710 wickets in T20 cricket, including IPL, BBL, CPL, PSL, and APL. The spinner is known for his accurate and economical bowling. Afghanistan will hope for a new chapter in T20I history with his appointment as captain.
