Rise of Shardul Thakur As An All-Rounder for Indian Cricket

Shardul Thakur, born on 16 October 1991, hails from Palghar, a town in Maharashtra. The cricketer is better known by names “Lord Thakur” or “Palghari Express”. The story of Lord Thakur began way back in 2012, when he made his debut against Rajasthan in Ranji Trophy Season. Although, he had an unacceptable run where he picked only 4 wickets in as many matches. Lord Thakur was part of many unforgettable moments in Indian Cricket from last 2 years

After such a poor run, the player was also criticized by experts for his overweight and fitness issues. But Thakur has always been known for his comebacks, since the time he has caught the limelight and story way back to when he returned to cricket after shedding 13 kilos of weight.

“Palghari Express” had a dream Ranji Trophy Season for many years, starting from 2013 and achieved his peak in 2014-15 season where he was the joint highest wicket taker with 48 wickets. He was soon rewarded for his consistency with an IPL contract from Kings XI Punja { now Punjab Kings }, although he warmed the bench for whole season.

IPL Success for Shardul Thakur

Shardul Thakur gained the attention of every cricket enthusiast during his stint with Rising Pune Supergiants when he broke the castle of Kings XI Punjab with his bowling brilliance as he took 3 wickets after conceding merely 18 runs. After, the comeback of Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals, Shardul again had the privilege of playing under M.S. Dhoni. This was the prime time where he got every possible opportunity at international level for Indian Cricket Team.

Year 2021 – Lord Thakur’s Year

” Lord Shardul Thakur” had an unforgettable year 2021 and a year which every cricketer wants to never end when everything seems to be going in the right direction. The Mumbaikar started the year with a bang on India’s tour of Australia, where in the Brisbane test he showed his sheer dominance with bat as well as ball. With 7 wickets in his pocket from the match and also emerging as the highest run scorer for India’s 1st innings with a score of 67, displayed his great character and batting skills. This was the time when he got recognition as an all-rounder.

Shardul didn’t stop his dominance only to Australian soil, but showed everyone his capability when India toured England in August 2021. The test series was tied at 1-1 and in the fourth test, with the help of Shardul Thakur’s world-class skills, India managed to win the match as well as take lead 2-1 in the series. Shardul spelled his magic with batting as well as bowling. He scored a tremendous half century in both the innings and picked up three wickets as well.

Shardul ”Lord” Thakur began the year 2022 on a high note, that too again on the foreign soil{India’s tour of South Africa}. This time, he managed to create history and break some records. In the 2nd test, Thakur registered his career best figures of 7/61 in test match which helped India to all out South Africa on 229/10. It was his maiden 5 wicket haul in test, and also the best figure by an Indian against South Africa in South Africa too. Although, India lost the match by 7 wickets but this match will definitely be memorable for Shardul Thakur.
