Rohit Sharma, returning to lead India in the day/night Test against Australia at the Adelaide Oval, appeared confident and relaxed during his press conference on Thursday. India leads the five-Test series 1-0, following a commanding 295-run victory in Perth under Jasprit Bumrah’s captaincy, a match Rohit missed due to the birth of his son.

As India prepares for the second Test, the main question was about KL Rahul’s batting position, especially after his impressive 201-run opening stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal in the second innings of the Perth Test.

When asked about his own batting role, Rohit confirmed Rahul would remain at the top of the order. “KL will open the innings, and I will bat somewhere in the middle. It’s not easy for me, but it’s the best for the team,” Rohit told reporters ahead of the second Test.

Rohit’s Test career took a positive turn in 2019 when he began opening, and he praised Rahul’s consistency outside India. “What KL has shown outside India, he deserves that place (opening slot),” Rohit added.

In India’s impressive Perth win, Rahul—opening for the first time since February 2023—faced 74 balls in India’s first innings, which ended at 150 from 298 balls. He then batted for 176 balls in a 201-run opening partnership as Jaiswal scored 161.
