Hardik Pandya, India’s versatile cricketer, will be absent from the T20I series against Afghanistan due to a lingering ankle injury sustained during the ICC World Cup 2023.
Despite missing recent T20Is against Australia and South Africa, he is expected to lead Mumbai Indians in the upcoming IPL 2024 after being traded from Gujarat Titans.
However, if Hardik Pandya fails to recover in time for the T20 World Cup 2024 then Rohit Sharma could captain the Indian Team in the tournament.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have not played any T20Is for India since the World Cup semi-final loss against England in 2022. BCCI was trying to phase them out in order to introduce young blood in the T20 set-up.
Hardik Pandya has been leading India since the last 12-14 months in T20Is. He is expected to be India’s captain in the T20 World Cup 2024. But his injury prone nature could force the BCCI to stick with Rohit Sharma as the captain.
