Shreyas Iyer to Replace Ishan Kishan in India vs Bangladesh Asia Cup 2023 Super Four

Shreyas Iyer could replace Ishan Kishan in India vs Bangladesh match

Team India’s batsman, Shreyas Iyer, has rejoined the squad for an optional practice session ahead of their Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match against Bangladesh. Iyer had been sidelined from previous Super Four stage matches due to a back spasm. He had featured in India’s Group A games against rivals Pakistan and Nepal, scoring 14 runs in the Pakistan match.

However, his back spasm kept him out of the Super Four clashes against Pakistan and Sri Lanka, both of which India won, securing their spot in the final. KL Rahul replaced Iyer in these matches and made a significant impact with a century against Pakistan and a useful 39 runs against Sri Lanka.

During the optional practice session, Iyer engaged in some light batting practice, which is an encouraging sign. Iyer’s consistency, ability to handle spin bowling, and adept strike rotation have made him a vital part of India’s middle-order. His return will undoubtedly be valuable in the Asia Cup and the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup, set to be hosted in India from October 5 onwards.

Iyer is making his comeback to the Indian team after suffering a back injury during the India vs Australia series in March earlier this year. As the captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders, he boasts an impressive ODI record, with 1,645 runs in 44 matches at an average of 45.69, including 2 centuries and 14 fifties, at a strike rate of 96.82.

India, currently leading the Super Four table with two wins and four points, is set to face Bangladesh in their upcoming match. Meanwhile, Bangladesh, at the bottom of the table with two losses, will be playing for pride.
