Renowned for his contributions in the middle order, the 28-year-old batsman boasts a record of scoring runs across all three formats. However, a back injury he sustained during the fourth match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia kept him sidelined for over five months. Undergoing surgery and completing rehabilitation at the NCA in Bangalore, Iyer worked to regain his form and fitness.

During his absence from the crease, India, led by Rohit Sharma, struggled to find a consistent replacement for the pivotal number four position. Numerous players auditioned for the role, but none managed to shine as brightly as Shreyas Iyer did.

An undisclosed source at the NCA revealed that Shreyas Iyer’s remarkable 199-run innings in a practice match served as a compelling signal to the selectors that he was ready to participate in competitive matches once again. Following his impressive knock, Iyer actively fielded throughout the 50-over match.

“In a practice tie, he dominated the bowlers at the National Cricket Academy, notching up 199 runs. Additionally, to furnish the selectors with more proof of his fitness, he fielded for the entire 50 overs during a match at the Just Cricket Academy in Bangalore a few days ago,” the source stated.

It was further disclosed that Shreyas Iyer had dedicated the past two months to his recovery at the NCA in Bangalore, diligently working to bounce back from his injury after undergoing surgery. “For the past two months, he has been stationed at the NCA in Bangalore, concentrating on his recovery. Everything has come together smoothly for him,” the source added.

Shreyas Iyer expressed his gratitude to his coaches at the NCA, as well as those beyond it, for their unwavering support in his journey to recovery. He conveyed his appreciation through a post on his official Instagram account
