Shubman Gill Dengue Update: Expected to Miss Clash Against Pakistan in ICC World Cup 2023

Shubman Gill Dengue Latest Update

As per reports, Shubman Gill, the standout Indian batsman, is dealing with dengue fever, and it’s likely that he won’t be able to participate in India’s third match of the ICC World Cup 2023 against Pakistan, which is scheduled to take place in Ahmedabad. Gill was sidelined for the team’s initial two World Cup matches held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai and the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, where Ishan Kishan filled in for him as the opening batsman, partnering with the Indian captain Rohit Sharma.

“Shubman Gill was on drip at the Chennai team hotel for the last couple of days. However his platelet count dropped to 70,000 and as it is a case with dengue patients, once the count is below 100,000, you are admitted to a medical facility as a precautionary measure. He was admitted for all mandatory tests on Sunday night when India played Australia but by Monday evening was released,” a BCCI source earlier told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

According to a Hindustan Times article, Shubman Gill has been discharged from the hospital after receiving treatment for dengue fever. Earlier, Cricbuzz had reported that he was admitted to a hospital in Chennai.

Shubman Gill Set to Miss Crucial Tie Against Pakistan

With Shubman Gill’s participation in the crucial October 14th match against Pakistan in the ICC World Cup 2023 remaining uncertain, his next opportunity to play could come in the match against Bangladesh at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune.

Shubman Gill’s absence will be deeply felt by the Indian cricket team, given his exceptional performance over the past two years. He has consistently been India’s top performer in all three formats of the game. Typically, it takes 10-12 days for a full recovery from dengue. We’ll have to wait and see if he’ll be ready for the important fourth match against Pakistan.
