The group stage of the T20 World Cup in the Americas and the West Indies has concluded, and the top eight teams are now preparing for the Super Eight stage. While the current World Cup hasn’t finished yet, selections have already been made for the teams participating in the 2026 T20 World Cup. A total of 12 teams have secured their spots for this global tournament scheduled two years from now, including India.
India & Sri Lanka to Host the T20 World Cup 2026
India and Sri Lanka have been awarded the hosting rights for the upcoming T20 World Cup scheduled two years from now. Sri Lanka’s performance in the current World Cup hasn’t been strong, as they did not advance past the group stage. However, they have successfully qualified as hosts. On the other hand, India has performed well in the group stage of the T20 World Cup, securing a place in the Super Eight stage. Additionally, India has also qualified to host the tournament in 2026.
Pakistan Qualifies for the Tournament
While teams like the United States and Afghanistan have qualified for the 2026 T20 World Cup based on their performances, New Zealand and Pakistan have secured their places in the tournament based on T20 rankings. Both New Zealand and Pakistan had disappointing performances in the current T20 World Cup, failing to qualify for the Super Eight stage. They each played four matches in their respective groups, winning two and losing two, which halted their journey in the group stage. Besides Pakistan and New Zealand, Ireland’s team also successfully qualified based on rankings.

8 Teams to be Decided Via Qualifiers
Like this time, 20 teams will participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup, and once again the tournament will be hosted by two countries. The selection of the 12 teams participating in the tournament has already been made, while the remaining eight teams will enter the tournament through regional qualifiers.
