Here are the three key player battles to watch out for during the SRH vs RR match:

    1) Abhishek Sharma vs Avesh Khan

Abhishek Sharma is unstoppable once he gets set. His aggressive style of batting has earned him a lot of success this season. He will look to carry on in similar form in Qualifier 2 match as well. However, he will be challenged by Avesh Khan. Therefore, it will be an interesting to see who will come up on top in this battle.

    2) Travis Head vs Trent Boult

Travis Head can destroy any bowling attack if he gets going. One thing is certain: he won’t hold back and will attack all guns blazing, even though he is coming off two consecutive ducks. Both times it was a left-arm pacer who dismissed him. On the other hand, Trent Boult possesses new ball skillset, to take down Head. Overall, it’s an interesting battle to watch out for.

    3) Riyan Parag vs Pat Cummins

Riyan Parag has been the best batter for Rajasthan Royals this season. His performance will be crucial for his team and will be looking to carry on his superb touch. But, he will be challenged by the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad Pat Cummins, who has dismissed Riyan twice in 13 balls. So, it will be an interesting battle to watch out for.

    Yuzi Chahal

In this article, we will take a look at the top 7 expected Purple Cap holders in IPL 2023.

    1. Yuzvendra Chahal (Rajasthan Royals)

IPL 2022 was a big year for the Rajasthan Royals. They made it to their second IPL final after 13 years. Unfortunately, they didn’t win the trophy, but Chahal was a stand-out performer. He was the leading wicket-taker and won the purple cap. He showed 27 batsmen the way to the dugout. He was purchased by RR for INR 6.50 crore in the mega auction. He will try to replicate last year’s performance in the IPL 2023 edition.

    2. Lockie Ferguson (Kolkata Knight Riders)

Ferguson made his IPL 2020 debut with KKR. His ability to deliver quick, toe-crushing yorkers at the death, and bowl continuously above 150 km/h speed, made him a valuable asset to the team. Kolkata Knight Riders have always shown massive faith in him. Last year, he was purchased by the Gujarat Titans for a whopping sum of INR 10 crores, and he was able to send 12 batters to the dressing room. Ahead of the mini-auction, he was traded back to KKR. In IPL 2023, he will be looking to win the first-ever purple cap for KKR.

    3. Harshal Patel (Royal Challengers Bangalore)

Harshal Patel had a breakout year in IPL 2021, taking the most wickets in the tournament and winning the purple cap. Patel’s story is one of hard work and dedication paying off. He was repurchased by RCB at the IPL Mega Auction for INR 14 crores. Last year, Patel directed 19 batters to the pavilion. In the IPL 2023 edition, he will again dismiss opponents with his slow cutters and sharp yorkers.

    4. Mohammed Shami (Gujarat Titans)

Shami is a crucial player in the T20 format, able to bowl extremely accurately and pick up crucial wickets for his team when needed. In last year’s Mega Auction, he was purchased by Gujarat Titans for a whopping sum of INR 6.25 crore. 20 batsmen were shown the way to the dressing room by him during the 2022 IPL season. Since the last 4 years, Shami has consistently picked up 19-20 wickets, and he will be looking to win the purple cap in the IPL 2023 edition.

    5. Kagiso Rabada (Punjab Kings)

Rabada is a bowler who has seen a lot of success in the IPL. In 2020, he won the purple cap for taking the most wickets in the tournament. He was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and was picked up by Punjab Kings for INR 9.25 crore. Rabada was in great form during the 2022 season, taking 23 wickets. He will look to continue his good form in the 2023 season and win the purple cap once again.

    6. Umran Malik (Sunrisers Hyderabad)

Malik is a surprise entry on the list of contenders for the purple cap in the IPL. He was retained by SRH in the mega auction for INR 4 crores. Although he has only featured in 17 matches, his speed has kept everyone dancing at the crease. Umran will surely look to grab the purple cap in the 2023 edition of the IPL.

  • 7 Best Pacers India Should Have Tried Instead of Avesh Khan

The Indian cricket team gave numerous chances to Avesh Khan to ultimately not include him in the Indian squad for the T20I World Cup. Many feel that India could have tried out a few other fast-bowling prospects in place of Avesh Khan to build a much more solid team for the T20I World Cup. India lost against England in the semi-final of the T20 world cup mainly because of their bowlers.

Here are the 7 Pacers that the Indian selection committee could have tried instead of Avesh Khan:

    1- Umran Malik

The speedster from Jammu and Kashmir can constantly clock 150km/ph. He was in the Indian team, which played against Ireland and England. He was thrashed by the England batters and went on to concede 54 runs in the third T20I of the series. However, he did look lethal for a few moments when his bowl landed in the right areas.

Malik is a bit wayward with his pace right now, but most of the pacers who can clock up to 150km/ph do leak runs but can give you quick wickets. Mitchell Starc is a fine example of it. On his days, he can completely annihilate a team on his own and on his bad days, he can concede loads of runs.

India could have stuck around with Umran Malik for a few more series before deciding his fate for the T20I World Cup.

    2- Mohsin Khan

Mohsin Khan, the left-arm pacer, was brilliant for the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2022. He was one of the finds of the tournament. His uncanny ability to pick wickets made him one of the most reliable bowlers for KL Rahul in the LSG camp.

Khan’s name has not come up at all during the preparation of this T20I World Cup. India continually gave chances to Avesh Khan, who is his teammate from the Lucknow Super Giants and overlooked Mohsin at all times. India needed a left-arm pacer before Arshdeep Singh finally found his way to the Indian team, and Mohsin Khan could have been perfect for that role.

    3- Vaibhav Arora

Another budding Indian pacer who impressed us with his swing bowling abilities in the IPL 2022 is Vaibhav Arora, who represented the Punjab Kings in the tournament. Vaibhav is lethal with the new ball in his hand.

He proved that on quite a few occasions in the IPL and could have been a better option than Avesh Khan for India. Imagine Vaibhav and Bhuvi bowling swing in tandem against the opposition. What a sight it could have been if Vaibhav Arora was there in T20I World Cup.

    4- Mukesh Chaudhary

Another Indian pacer flourishing under the guidance of MS Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings, Mukesh Chaudhary, was a revelation for the CSK management as he became an effective replacement for Deepak Chahar in the IPL 2022.

Chaudhary impressed everyone with his swing upfront. He took 16 wickets in 13 matches and emerged as one of the bowlers to watch out for in the future. BCCI could have looked at him instead of Avesh Khan.

    5- Basil Thampi

Basil Thampi was ranked as one of the finest budding Indian pacers when he first debuted in IPL with Gujarat Lions. He was highly successful in that season and bowled the death overs for his team. His pinpoint yorkers became a topic of talk during that IPL season.

Basil was then bought by SRH, where he did not have a successful run and finally made his way to Mumbai Indian in IPL 2022. He had a decent tournament this year and was one of the promising bowlers in the fragile MI line-up this year. He should have been given a chance at the international level by the BCCI.

    6- Shivam Mavi

The second last bowler on the list is Shivam Mavi, a pacer who can bowl in the 140km/ph regularly. He can be expensive at times, but his pace also brings an added advantage of picking up wickets.

Mavi has a career economy of 8.71 in IPL, which is not quite bad. He has picked up 30 wickets in his short IPL career so far and is one of the young bowlers that Kolkata Knight Riders is not keen to part ways with.

    7- Karthik Tyagi

The last bowler on this list is Karthik Tyagi. Very few people know that Karthik Tyagi was in the squad for the famous final test vs Australia in Gabba. He’s a very good death ball bowler and can be pretty useful with the new ball as well. Karthik Tyagi once defended just 4 runs in the final over against Punjab, definitely one of the best overs in IPL history.

  • 16 Probable Players Who Can Represent India in the T20 World Cup 2022

ICC T20 World Cup 2022 will be played in October in Australia. After losing badly in the T20 World Cup 2021, India will look to make an emphatic return by lifting the trophy after 15 years. Currently, the Indian team is experimenting with the combinations they would like to field in the playing eleven at the World Cup. The recently concluded Indian Premier League has opened up a plethora of options for the selectors. Sanju Samson and Rahul Tripathi have finally been acknowledged by the BCCI selectors and included in the squad against Ireland.

A lot will depend on the upcoming T20i matches that India will play before the World Cup. It will become a key in determining the players who will represent the nation at the World Cup. The Indian coach Rahul Dravid had stated that he would like to field the team that he would want India to represent in the World Cup as early as August. Here, we have listed the 16 probable players for the Indian squad at the T20i World Cup 2022.

    1- Rohit Sharma

The Indian captain will definitely be in the squad as his leadership abilities are required for India to stand a chance at winning the World Cup. Rohit Sharma failed to live up to the expectations in the Indian Premier League. He registered only 264 runs at an unimpressive average of 19.14 and a modest strike rate of 120.17. The Indian team and fans are hoping that he finds his mojo back before the World Cup.

Reason for selection: Rohit Sharma is the captain of the Indian team, which makes his selection in the squad a no-brainer.

    2- Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli, one of the most decorated cricketers in the world, is currently going through a rough patch. He had a forgettable IPL season. The former Indian skipper registered only two half-centuries in the tournament. He scored 341 runs at an average of 22.73 and a slow strike rate of 115.98. Kohli will have the opportunity to come back to the form against England and West Indies before the World Cup.

Reason for selection: The experience and aura of Virat Kohli in world cricket make him an irrefutable choice for the number three position in the Indian team.

    3- KL Rahul

KL Rahul was named Indian captain for the T20i series against South Africa before an injury made him skip the series. He is the first choice to partner with Rohit Sharma at the top in the World Cup, which is scheduled to be played in October. KL Rahul was the second-highest run-getter in the IPL 2022. He amassed 616 runs at a staggering average of 51.33 and a strike rate of 135.58. He is expected to make his comeback once his injury heals.

Reason for selection: A great IPL season and his ability to accelerate makes him the top choice for sharing the opening slot with Rohit Sharma.

    4- Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan can be the perfect backup opener for Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul at the World Cup. The left-handed opener will also bring a variety to the Indian batting line-up, which is studded with right-handers. Kishan did not fare well at the IPL but returned to form in the T20i series against South Africa. He gave India team quick starts and notched up two half-centuries in the series.

Reason for selection: The in-form left-handed opener needs to be included in the squad to secure a safe cover for KL Rahul, who is currently battling injuries. Because of series against South Africa he has given himself a great chance to be in the probable squad for upcoming T20 World Cup in Australia.

Also Read: Kapil Dev Slams the Indian Trio of Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul: Know What He Said

    5- Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has still not realised his immense potential in international cricket. He has been given very limited chances in the Indian team, and unfortunately, he has failed to mark his presence at the international level with those opportunities. However, Samson is selected to represent India against Ireland in the T20i series. He has all the shots and can prove to be India’s ace on Australia’s bouncy and tacky pitches.

Reason for selection: Though there is a very minor chance of his selection but we all know Sanju Samson is an x-factor player who can quickly turn around a game on the bouncy pitches in Australia.

    6- Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik has reinvented himself in the last IPL season. He stole everyone’s attention at the tournament by playing crisp and impactful knocks as a finisher for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He replicated the same success against South Africa by becoming the oldest Indian batter to score a half-century in T20i cricket. Karthik made 330 runs in 16 innings at a massive strike rate of 183.33.

Reason for selection: India requires a finisher who can attack from the get-go, and Karthik can do that at the moment.

    7- Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant captained the Indian team against South Africa in the absence of senior players. It shows how much the Indian selectors and management believe in the capabilities of this youngster. Pant did not have a great series with the bat, and he also had a lacklustre IPL. However, he is still expected to find a place in the Indian squad for the T20i World Cup.

Reason for selection: Pant is a game-changer and can be used as a pinch-hitter by the Indian team by slotting him at the 4th position in the batting order.

    8- Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya has made a huge comeback to the cricketing world after being sidelined for a long time due to injuries. He captained the Gujarat Titans in IPL and went on to win the trophy with his team. He had a great tournament with the bat. Pandya scored 487 runs in 15 innings at the tournament. The IPL-winning captain picked 3 wickets in the final to showcase his all-around ability as a player. In the series against South Africa, Pandya was a force to be reckoned with. His valuable contributions in the death overs are what India will expect from him at the World Cup.

Reason for selection: Pandya is the only premium Indian all-rounder who can bat and ball pace deliveries.

    9- Ravindra Jadeja

Ravindra Jadeja is one of India’s most valuable all-rounders. The left-hander has reinvented his hitting ability in the shortest format of the game in the past couple of years. Jadeja had an underwhelming IPL season where he was bogged down by the weight of captaining Chennai Super Kings. He left the tournament midway due to an injury and has not played any cricket since then. However, he is expected to mark his return to the Indian team in T20is against England. He can be a crucial spinning option, providing a few handy runs for India at the World Cup.

Reason for selection: The ability to bat left-handed and bowl as the leading spinner for the side makes him an indispensable asset.

    10- Suryakumar Yadav

The explosive middle-order batter played only 8 matches for Mumbai Indians in IPL 2022 due to the injuries. However, he made his presence felt in the 8 innings by scoring 303 runs at a healthy strike rate of 145.67 and a staggering average of 43.29. Yadav has been a revelation for India in T20is. He performed exceptionally as a finisher against West Indies and Sri Lanka in T20is for India before IPL 2022. He is making his return to the India squad against Ireland.

Reason for selection: 360-degree gameplay and the ability to carry an inning make him the perfect backup player for Virat Kohli

    11- Harshal Patel

Harshal Patel is definitely going to be in the Indian squad for the T20i World Cup. The right-arm medium-pace bowler is an excellent option for death bowling. He picked 19 wickets in 15 games in IPL 2022 while giving away runs at an astonishing economy of 7.66. Patel has emerged as a death-over specialist with his deceptive slower balls and pinpoint yorkers. Against South Africa, he dismissed the dangerous David Miller twice in two consecutive games to contribute to the Indian victory.

Reason for selection: Death over specialist who can also swing around his bat in the time of need. Harshal initially started as a pure all-rounder in cricket.

    12- Jasprit Bumrah

Jasprit Bumrah is India’s best bowler in all three formats of the game. His record speaks for itself. The uncanny pacer has represented India in 57 T20is and picked up 67 wickets with a handsome economy of 6.50. He is widely considered the most difficult bowler to face in the shortest format of the game. Bumrah is the backbone of the Indian bowling line-up, and it is much more impossible to imagine an Indian team at the T20i World Cup without him than veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.

Reason for selection: He is the best Indian fast bowler, and his uncanny bowling action paired with his accuracy is a deadly combination.

    13- Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The veteran swing bowler who has lost a bit of pace but can still do wonders with his variations is one of the favourites to form a bowling pair with Bumrah at the World Cup. Bhuvneshwar recently won the player of the series award against South Africa for picking up 6 wickets and bowling with an impressive economy. The Indian team can use his quota of the overs at both the front and back end of the innings due to his ability to perform well in both phases of the matches.

Reason for selection: Bhuvneshwar is India’s most experienced bowler who still has a lot to offer, as proved by his performance against South Africa.

    14- Yuzvendra Chahal

Yuzvendra Chahal replied to his critics in style by winning the purple cap at IPL 2022. He picked up 27 wickets at an average of 19.51 in 17 matches. His economy was also extraordinary as he gave away runs at only 7.75. Chahal was selected over Ravi Bishnoi in all four T20is that India played against South Africa. He picked 6 wickets in the series and was awarded player of the match in the third T20i.

Reason for selection: Yuzvendra Chahal is a smart bowler who can think on his feet, making him a valuable option in Australia, where pitches will not suit the spinners.

    15- Umran Malik

The young sensation from Kashmir has become the talk of the town due to his ability to bowl regularly at the pace of 150km/ph. Umran Malik shocked everyone in IPL 2022 by becoming the only third Indian uncapped bowler in IPL history to take a fifer. Cricket experts have been demanding his inclusion in the Indian squad for the T20i World Cup. Malik is included in the squad that will play against Ireland.

Reason for selection: Umran Malik can be India’s wildcard at the upcoming T20i World Cup due to his fiery pace.

    16- Avesh Khan

Since the T20i World Cup is taking place in Australia, the Indian team will pick more fast bowlers than spinners in the squad. Avesh Khan took four wickets in the fourth T20i match against South Africa. He can continuously bowl at a speed of more than 140km/ph. His accuracy is a plus point which can help India pile pressure on the opponents in the T20i World Cup.

Reason for selection: Pace with accuracy is one of the critical factors that work in favour of Avesh Khan.

  • Player Wise Depth Analysis of India vs South Africa T20i Series

India vs South Africa T20i series was drawn due to the rain washing out the 5th and last T20i of the series, which could have been the series decider. However, the 4 T20is that did take place gave us an idea of the functionality of both India and South Africa in T20i. Here we analyse a few players from the series who either justified their potential or had a disappointing outing.

    Dinesh Karthik

Dinesh Karthik has come back to the international cricket with an aim, and he has done exceptionally well in the series to be considered for the upcoming T20i World Cup. In a must-win game in the 4th T20i, Karthik became the oldest Indian to score a half-century in T20i format. He scored 55 off 27 to help his team guide to the victory. His crucial knock has fuelled the debate that Karthik might be a better choice than Rishabh Pant in the upcoming T20i World Cup in Australia.

    David Miller

David Miller was brilliant in the first couple of matches for South Africa. In the first T20i, he played a match-winning knock of 64 off 31, and in the second T20i, he remained unbeaten on 20 to help his team grasp the victory. Miller failed to register big scores in the 3rd and 4th T20i, but his contribution in the first two games makes him one of the finishers to watch out for in the upcoming T20i World Cup.

    Rishabh Pant

Rishabh Pant was handed the captaincy of the Indian team in the absence of senior players, but the left-handed batter had a forgettable experience. He could never get going in the series and uncharacteristically scored below the strike rate of 100. Pant’s failure in the series has opened up the path for critics to severely criticise him. His overall performance was below par, and his captaincy was also questionable in the first two games. Most likely, Pant could be replaced by Dinesh Karthik as the finisher in the Indian playing XI at the World Cup.

    Hardik Pandya

Hardik Pandya has come back strong after a hiatus. His hitting ability is still the same. He played a few crucial knocks for the Indian team in the T20i series. In the first match, he scored 31 off 12 and remained unbeaten on 31 in the third game. In the fourth game, he was brilliant again and scored 46 off 31. He also showed glimpses of his bowling throughout the series. Hardik Pandya is sure to be featured in the Indian T20i side at the World Cup.

    Quinton De Kock

The left-handed opener disappointed the South African fans during this series. He did not play any knock of substance throughout the series. He played only the first and fourth matches in the series and scored a total of 36 runs. De Kock’s failure at the top could have been a huge worry for South Africa if the middle-order had not performed. The fourth match of the series is an example of what could have happened to South Africa if the middle-order did not come to the rescue.

    Shreyas Iyer

One batter that everyone was looking out to watch was Shreyas Iyer. He had a  great series against Sri Lanka, where he scored three consecutive half-centuries. However, the glaring weakness in his batting against the quality pace was revealed in the India vs South Africa T20i series. Iyer had a horrible strike rate that did more harm than good to the Indian team. His strike rate hovered around 100 despite him playing more than 20 balls on two occasions. Surely, Iyer is not yet at the level to replace Virat Kohli at number three in T20is.

    Avesh Khan

Avesh Khan was preferred over Umran Malik and Arshdeep Singh in all four T20is of the series. Avesh was wicketless and expensive till the third T20i, but he made a fabulous return to form in the fourth T20i to pick four wickets. However, one cannot ignore the fact that he failed in three matches. His place on the team is still doubtful.

    Bhuvneshwar Kumar

Bhuvi was a breath of fresh air in the India vs South Africa T20i series. In the absence of Jaspirt Bumrah, Bhuvi led the Indian pace attack by example. He was awarded player of the series for picking up 6 wickets and bowling with an economy that hovered around 6 runs per over. Bhuvneshwar has proved that he is still the second-best bowler for India in T20i after Jasprit Bumrah. His inclusion in the Indian team for World Cup is a no-brainer.

    Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan has risen to the 7th position in the ICC T20i batter rankings after his great performance in the series. He provided the Indian team with good quick starts and established a solid foundation for the batters to come. Kishan scored two half-centuries in the series and on other two occasions registered quick scores in the 20s and 30s. He was an ideal replacement for KL Rahul at the top and should definitely feature as a reserve opener in the Indian World Cup squad.

    Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad scored only one half-century in the India vs South Africa T20i series. In the other three matches, he failed to register any score of substance. His lacklustre batting at the top had piled pressure on the Indian middle order and his partner at the top. Gaikwad was not able to repeat his heroics from the IPL.

  • Karthik-Pandya help India level the T20i series against South Africa

Dinesh Karthik 55 off 27 and Hardik Pandya 46 off 31 helped India level the five-match T20i series against South Africa. The duo worked exceptionally in tandem to help India put 169/6 in 20 overs on the board. Indian bowlers showed grit and determination to finally register an excellent performance which helped India level the T20i series against South Africa. Avesh Khan was the pick of the bowlers with his four wickets that dismantled the Proteas chase.

South Africa could only score 87 runs in reply to ultimately suffer a massive defeat by 82 runs. It was South Africa’s lowest ever team total in T20i history. Also, it is the biggest margin for a victory for India against South Africa in T20is. With this performance, the Indian team has shut down the trolls and critics who lamented India’s loss in the first couple of matches to the poor team selection.

Rishabh Pant lost the toss, and South Africa asked India to bat first in the match. Ruturaj Gaikwad registered only 5 runs in 7 balls while his opening partner Ishan Kishan scored 27 off 26. Shreyas Iyer’s bad phase in the series continued as he was able to score only 4 runs in 2 balls. The skipper Pant also failed to register a score of significance yet again. He played an uncharacteristic knock of 17 off 23.

India was reduced to 81/4 in 12.5 overs when Dinesh Karthik walked in to bat alongside Hardik Pandya. The pair started slowly but soon developed momentum and went for the big shots. Ultimately, they helped India reach 169 in 20 overs. Karthik brought up his maiden T20i half-century and became the oldest Indian batter to score a half-century in the shortest format of the game.

Karthik and Pandya’s knock gave the bowlers of team India the belief that they could level the series against South Africa. Avesh picked 4 wickets while Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed 2 batters. Axar Patel and Harshal Patel sent back one batter each to contribute to India’s victory. The final match of the series will be played in Bengaluru on 19th June 2022.
