Rishabh Pant to Join CSK in IPL 2025?

Big news is emerging ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction. According to reports, India’s young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant may part ways with Delhi Capitals. The question now arises: if he is leaving Delhi, which team might he join in the upcoming season?

Reports suggest that he could be seen playing for Chennai Super Kings next season. It is believed that after IPL 2025, Dhoni will retire from the prestigious league. Therefore, the franchise needs a dynamic and explosive wicketkeeper-batsman like Dhoni who can change the course of the match coming in the lower order.

Talking about Rishabh Pant’s IPL career, his performance has been outstanding so far. After returning from injury in the last season, he performed exceptionally well. In IPL 2024, he played a total of 13 matches for DC, scoring 446 runs in 13 innings with an average of 40.54 and a strike rate of 155.40.

So far, Rishabh Pant has played a total of 111 matches in the IPL, scoring 3284 runs in 110 innings with an average of 35.31. Pant has 1 century and 18 half-centuries in the IPL, with his highest individual score being 128 runs.

KL Rahul has led the Lucknow Super Giants for three consecutive years in the IPL. However, veteran India cricketer Amit Mishra suggests that Rahul might not continue in this role for the upcoming season. Mishra believes LSG may look for a new captain, emphasizing the importance of having the right mindset for T20 cricket.

“It does not matter if he is in the Indian team or not. But a person who has the right mentality for T20s should be the captain. Someone who plays for the team should be captain. I am sure LSG will look for a better captain,” Mishra said during a conversation with YouTuber Shubhankar Mishra.

Mishra also shared insights into a conversation between LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka and Rahul after their 10-wicket loss against Sunrisers Hyderabad. “He (Goenka) was disappointed. We lost two back-to-back matches very badly. Against KKR, we lost by some 90-100 runs and against SRH, the match was finished within 10 overs. It felt like we were bowling to them during a net practice session. If I am so angry about it, will someone who has actually invested in the team not feel angry? It was not a huge deal. But I later came to know that he said the bowling was very bad and the team should have shown some fight. It looked like you had completely surrendered. But I feel people and media hyped it up a bit,” Mishra explained.

It is being told that BCCI has contacted all the franchises and raised some issues, including the rule of retaining players. But the biggest issue raised is what will be the salary cap of the teams. Salary cap means how much money will be in the purse of each franchise, using which it can buy players in the auction. The salary cap of 2024 was INR 100 crore, that is, each franchise had a maximum of INR 100 crore to prepare its squad. But now there is a demand to increase the salary cap by 20 percent.

According to reports, all the franchise owners have demanded a 20 percent increase in the salary cap in front of BCCI. Let us tell you that the salary cap was increased by 5 percent when it came from 2023 to 2024. That is, it was brought from INR 95 crore to INR 100 crore. It is being told that before the mega auction of IPL 2025, there can be an increase of at least 10 percent in the salary cap, but a 20 percent increase is also completely possible. That is, if we look at the salary cap of 10 teams, then it goes above INR 10 billion together.

Starc became the most expensive player in the history of IPL as KKR bought him for INR 24.75 crore. Kolkata Knight Riders won the trophy in IPL 2024. Even though the captain of the team is Shreyas Iyer, all the credit for the victory went to mentor Gautam Gambhir. It would not be wrong to say that Iyer was a field captain under Gambhir. Hitman and Gambhir share a very good on-field relationship.

    2) Delhi Capitals

Rishabh Pant was given the captaincy of Delhi Capitals in IPL 2020. But, there was no significant difference in Delhi’s performance and the team has not been able to open the account of title win. Therefore, as soon as the option of captain Rohit, who has won the trophy for Mumbai 5 times, opens up, DC would like to hand over the command of the team to him by joining him.

In such a situation, after Dhoni, he can emerge as a better captain by playing under Rohit.
