Wasim Jaffer’s bold statement on KL Rahul: “Every innings of his is going to be scrutinized since Suryakumar Yadav is sitting out, he has a lot to prove now.”

Jaffer’s statement comes after the recent selection of the Indian cricket team for the upcoming ODI series against Sri Lanka. Suryakumar Yadav, who had a strong performance in the recently concluded T20I series, was left out.

    Wasim Jaffer on KL Rahul

Jaffer explained that apart from Rahul’s lack of consistency, his presence in the team is also keeping big names like Suryakumar Yadav out of the ODI playing XI.

“When the bat doesn’t perform, you’re going to catch the eye. He (Rahul) hasn’t been in great form recently, so every innings of his is going to be scrutinized since Suryakumar Yadav is sitting out,” Jaffer said.

Despite Rahul’s series-winning fifty against Sri Lanka in Kolkata, Jaffer feels that the right-handed batter will remain under the scanner for a couple of key reasons. Before his half-century, Rahul had only scored one fifty in his previous nine international innings. He was dismissed for 39 in the first ODI against Sri Lanka.

Jaffer termed Rahul a class player but also highlighted that the player hasn’t lived up to his expectations on bigger occasions. “On bigger occasions, he hasn’t lived up to expectations,” Jaffer said.

It remains to be seen how KL Rahul will perform in the upcoming third ODI match against Sri Lanka. However, Jaffer’s statement highlights the added pressure that the Indian cricketer will be under due to the absence of Suryakumar Yadav. This is because he needs to prove his consistency in the team if the BCCI is planning to consider him for the forthcoming ODI World Cup 2023.

He carried his form into the T20 World Cup in 2022, finishing as the tournament’s leading run-scorer. This makes him even more dangerous heading into IPL 2023 and Royal Challengers Bangalore will be hoping for similar results.

    4. Jos Buttler (Rajasthan Royals)

Jos Buttler was the stand-out performer for Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2022, scoring 863 runs in the season, and winning the orange cap. His powerful batting display included 4 centuries and was a joy to watch. With 2831 runs in 82 matches, an average of 40, and a strike rate close to 150, Jos Buttler is one of the most exciting cricket players around. In IPL, he has played in 123 matches, scoring 1933 runs at an average of 30 and a strike rate of above 136 with 16 half-centuries. Skipper “Rohit Sharma” will try to utilize his form by sending him to bat at no. 3. Fans will not be surprised if he adds some numbers to his century list next year.

    6. Shikhar Dhawan (Punjab Kings)

Shikhar Dhawan is a reliable and consistent batsman, something that has been evident in his performances over the last seven seasons of the IPL. In 206 matches, Dhawan has scored 6244 runs, at an average of 35, and a strike rate of over 126 with 2 centuries and 47 half-centuries. In just 36 matches, he has scored 1207 runs at an average of 37 with a strike rate over 130. He won the orange cap in IPL 2021 edition. Ruturaj could also be a worthy contender for the orange cap in IPL 2023.

  • Dinesh Karthik on KL Rahul: “His numbers aren’t acceptable”

Dinesh Karthik on KL Rahul: “His numbers aren’t acceptable”

With KL Rahul scoring just 57 runs in total of 4 innings and his poor leadership have raise sever questions over his place in Indian Cricket team. Dinesh Karthik, former Indian wicket-keeper feels that KL Rahul is a failure in test cricket.

As India won the test series against Bangladesh because of Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer’s heroics, questions were raised about Rahul’s ability to not only bat but also to captain the Indian Cricket team. Speaking of LSG Captain KL Rahul’s batting form, Karthik stated that while he would give him a couple of matches, things needed to change quickly, or else someone like Shubman Gill could take his place in test match cricket as a full-time opener.

“I would give KL those couple of Test matches, but if things don’t go KL Rahul’s way… The one thing that does go against him is the fact that he has played over 40 Tests and his average is just mid-30s. That is not acceptable for an opener. That is one of the lowest among Indian players for sure, who have played 35 Test matches,” Dinesh Karthik said.

India’s next Test series will be a home series against Australia beginning February 9th in Nagpur. Karthik believes that if Rahul fails to score big daddy hundreds in the tournament, he may be forced to make way for young Shumban Gill in the India XI.

Dinesh Karthik further added: “That is something that he needs to work on. That will be on his mind. If he wants to cement his place in the Test team, he needs to get a couple of hundreds against Australia. Otherwise, you can see a change, with Shubman Gill doing so well,”

With Rohit Sharma coming back from injury for India vs Australia test series, management would want KL Rahul to score big otherwise Shubman Gill is always a better choice.

  • Top 7 Players Expected to Perform in India VS Bangladesh ODI Series

    1. Shreyas Iyer (IND)

Shreyas Iyer is one of the most consistent batsmen in the Indian squad, in the last few series and is currently in great form. He was the leading run-scorer in the ODI series against New Zealand. He will look to carry this form through against Bangladesh as well. India will rely on his batting to set up a big score in these upcoming matches and he will look to target the Bangladesh bowlers during the second powerplay.

    2. Virat Kohli (IND)

Virat Kohli is one of the best batsmen in the world and is currently back in form. He will look to carry this form through against Bangladesh as well. India will depend on his batting, be it while chasing or while setting up a big total in these matches and he will also try to end his thrust for his 44th ODI century.

    3. Mushfiqur Rahim (BAN)

Rahim is an impressive right-handed batsman, who has the ability to score runs against both spin and fast bowling. He will be an important player for Bangladesh to watch out for this series, especially after Tamim Iqbal was ruled out from the series. He’s in great form right now and can contribute in the middle order. He has been continuously scoring runs for Bangladesh in the ODIs.

    4. Shikhar Dhawan (IND)

Shikhar Dhawan has been included in the squad and this means that he will surely be opening the innings with Captain Rohit Sharma. He is in a good rhythm and will look to continue his good form in this series and provide India with a solid start. He is a very attacking batsman and will look to take on the Bangladeshi bowlers from the start.

    5. KL Rahul (IND)

KL Rahul is one of the most destructive and classy batsmen in Indian cricket. He will be key to India’s chances in the series and he will be looking to carry his form into the upcoming ODIs. But with Dhawan’s inclusion in the squad, and the No. 3 and No. 4 positions already being booked by Virat and Shreyas, he will be most probably seen batting at No. 5 and standing behind the stumps with gloves in his hand, something that he has done for the Indian team in the past.

    6. Mahmudullah (BAN)

Mahmudullah has greatly contributed to Bangladesh cricket, since his debut. He will be looking to continue, what he has been doing in the past in the upcoming series against India. He has class, and the ability to score runs in any situation. Also, being an all-rounder he can pick some crucial wickets in the game at any point.

    7. Shardul Thakur (IND)

Shardul Thakur will be one of the leading pacers for India in the ODI series against Bangladesh. This young man has a lot of potentials. He is very good with the ball and has the ability to take wickets on any type of pitch. Apart from bowling, he can equally contribute to the bat as well.

  • 7 Indian Players Who Should Retire From The T20 Internationals

India suffered a huge loss against England in the semi-final of the T20 World Cup 2022. They have failed to retrieve the trophy again after 14 years of victory in this tournament. Now, many arguments and reasons are given for the crushing loss against England, but we all know that a few players should make the hard decision of retiring from the T20Is to give the younger generation a shot at lifting the World Cup trophy for India. T20 Cricket favours those who play their natural attacking game with freedom, and the Indian side needs to realise this as soon as possible.

Here are 7 Indian players who should retire from T20 internationals

    1- Rohit Sharma

The Indian skipper failed miserably in the T20 World Cup 2022. Apart from a half-century, he has nothing to do so far in this tournament. In the important semifinal, he was probably the biggest reason India ended up losing to the English side. He scored 27 off 28 on a batters’ paradise in Adelaide. All that talk surrounding his excellent captaincy skills should now also be put to rest he was clearly not the best captain in the tournament. Also, Rohit is already 35 years old; by the time the next T20 World Cup arrives, he will be 37 years old. Age is also not on his side. He should retire and make way for young talents like Sanju Samson or Ruturaj Gaikwad at the top.

    2- KL Rahul

Clearly, KL Rahul is not man-made for the T20 international. Even though he has all the shots in his book, his batting approach for playing in his shell in important games showcases that India can’t rely on him during big tournaments like T20 World Cup 2022. We need fearless batters like Ishan Kishan or Rishabh Pant at the top. Also, the Indian batting line-up needs a left-hander at the top. Rahul should consider playing T20 leagues and hanging up his boots in the T20 internationals. Unfortunately, he is not the big-match player in the shortest format of the game.

    3- Shikhar Dhawan

It really baffles us why Shikhar Dhawan has not yet retired from the T20 internationals. Indian team management has made it clear that they do not look at Dhawan as the opener in the shortest format of the game, and he is considered only for the One Day International nowadays. Dhawan is already 36 years old and will be 38 when the next World Cup takes place. There is absolutely no sense for him to continue playing T20 cricket for India.

    4- Ravichandran Ashwin

The biggest mistake India probably made in this T20 World Cup 2022 was selecting Ravi Ashwin instead of Yuzvendra Chahal in the side. The Indian cricket team is so batting-conscious that they sometimes tend to ignore their bowling. In T20 cricket, bowlers are the ones who actually win you games. Batters can set the tone, but the bowlers will lead you to victory. Ravi Ashwin’s off-spin is utterly useless in T20 cricket. He is just playing as an extra batter who can bowl as well. Once Ravindra Jadeja returns, he will be out of the Indian setup. Ashwin should make for exciting young talent now.

    5- Dinesh Karthik

Not the fairytale that Dinesh Karthik had hoped for in this T20 World Cup. He made a comeback in the shortest format of the game and was considered ahead of Rishabh Pant in the playing eleven for most of the T20 World Cup. But unfortunately, Karthik showed no promise at all as the finisher. He is quite a one-dimensional player that India clearly does not need in their T20 set-up. Dinesh Karthik is already 37 years old, and we don’t see him playing in the next World Cup. He should gracefully retire from the T20Is.

    6- Bhuvneshwar Kumar

The peak of Bhuvi passed quite a long time ago. India is just somehow trying to benefit from his swinging abilities that come into play only in the first 2-3 overs of the game. In the death overs, he is not a specialist anymore. He goes for runs and is not worth playing anymore in T20 cricket. India needs to start grooming talents like Umran Malik, Mohsin Khan and more to wreak havoc at the next T20 World Cup.

    7- Mohammed Shami

The Indian fast bowler had a lacklustre outing in the T20 World Cup. After ignoring him for over a year, it was a completely wrong choice to bring him back into the T20 set-up. Clearly, India knew that Mohammad Shami was not cut out for the T20Is. Despite that, they took him to Australia due to the injury suffered by Jasprit Bumrah. Mohammed Shami should retire, and India should look at fresh options now and bring in bowlers who can attack the opposition.

  • England Crush India’s Hopes; Buttler Seals the Finals for his Team with a Massive Six

England handed India a huge defeat by 10 wickets and 4 overs to spare at Adelaide Oval to qualify for the finals against Pakistan in ICC T20 World Cup 2022. India could only score 168 despite the Adelaide Oval being a batter’s paradise. England chased the target with ease, with Buttler and Hales teaching India the approach they should have adopted for the semifinals.

English captain Jos Buttler won the toss and invited India to bat first. Rohit Sharma said at the toss that he would have chosen to bat even if he had won the toss. However, his powerful statement did not correspond with his turtle inning in the semifinals. Rohit Sharma scored 27 off 28 in the semifinals at Adelaide. India only scored 62 at the end of 10 overs in this significant game.

KL Rahul’s score is not even worth mentioning. Suryakumar Yadav did entertain us with a six and four, but the pressure that had been built on India ultimately got the better of him. Virat Kohli once again proved that he is the glue of the Indian batting line-up. He scored a valiant 50. However, Hardik Pandya’s inning gave India a fighting chance in the game. He played a quickfire knock of 63 off just 33 with 4 fours and 5 sixes. Rishabh Pant got to play 4 balls, to which he contributed 6 runs.

Chasing a par total of 169, England needed a good partnership. However, they got the best partnership they could have hoped for. Buttler and Hales carried them through the entire chase and won the game for them in just 16 overs. Needless to say, all Indian bowlers looked lacklustre. But are they really to blame for the loss? India’s approach in powerplay has been the reason for the disaster that finally took place today.

IND vs ENG Pitch Report of Today’s Match

The Adelaide Oval is certainly one of the better grounds to play cricket on. The average score on this ground is 155-160 but it has seen bigger totals being posted by teams. Batters will enjoy the true bounce of the wicket and the short square boundaries will be targeted. Spinners may also get some grip and turn as the wicket being played on is used but pace bowling has proven to be the more effective skill on this ground. Team batting first should look to attack right from the beginning.

IND vs ENG Probable Playing XIs

IND: KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik/Rishabh Pant (wk), Yuzvendra Chahal/Axar, Ravichandran Ashwin, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Shami, Arshdeep Singh

ENG: Alex Hales, Jos Buttler (c & wk), Philip Salt/David Willey, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook, Liam Livingstone, Moeen Ali, Sam Curran, Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, Chris Jordan

IND vs ENG Dream11 Prediction and Fantasy Cricket Tips

Top 3 Picks for IND vs ENG Dream11 Prediction Team

1- Rohit Sharma: The Indian captain has had a quiet tournament with the bat but the short square boundaries at the Oval could just be what he needs to groove back. An instinctive puller of the ball, Sharma has not been able to execute them in the manner he would like and has struggled for timing off late but if he spends time on the crease, can take the game away from England within a space of 2 overs.

2- KL Rahul: KL Rahul has faced immense flak for his poor outings in this World Cup and especially for not attacking in the first over of their batting innings. He smashed his way to half centuries back to back and his confidence seems to be growing. With his range of strokes, Rahul can be the chief disruptor with short square boundaries and field restrictions.

3- Sam Curran: England entered the World Cup with question marks on their death bowling attack and how it would fare but Sam Curran has grown leaps and bounds as cricketer in the past 18 months. He has been tremendous for England this edition, picking up wickets and executing the tough deliveries at crucial junctures. He also enjoys a favourable record against Sky and is known to be the bad luck charm for India in international fixtures. With long straight boundaries, Curran’s yorkers and full length deliveries take huge importance.

  • Bangladesh threatened but India’s fielding the gamechanger on a slippery day

India vs Bangladesh in world cups have produced some heart-stopping matches over the years with a mixture of heartbreaks and ecstasy. The 2007 debacle, the 2015 no ball controversy and the nail-biting last over of 2016 have all been games that are etched in memories of millions.

India entered today’s game the more nervous of the two sides with questions being thrown at their opening batters and Shakib playing some wonderful mind games in the pre match press conference. There were calls to drop KL Rahul and bring the left-handed genius of Pant in but the team management backed the class of Rahul to come through and how he repaid that faith. After a watchful first over, KL Rahul showed the world his elegance, playing shots all over the ground, leaving everyone watching in awe. His cut shot for a six over point was a shot of a batter of immense class. Virat Kohli continued his rich vein of form, giving India the much needed impetus in the death overs despite only facing 8 balls in the last 3 overs. Suryakumar Yadav stepped onto the field and continued batting like a dream as Ashwin arrived on the crease and played some eye pleasing strokes, guiding India to a competitive total of 184.

Bangladesh certainly looked pumped from the start of the game and did seem well in control before the Rahul burst and would have certainly walked back at the halfway stage thinking they were 15-20 runs above par. India would’ve believed that they had a decent score on board and rightly so, as this is only the third time a team has posted a total above 180. Liton Das was promoted to the opening slot and it proved to be a masterstroke as the batter played some audacious strokes and raced his way to half century that will be remembered for a very long time. The score after the powerplay read 60/0 and Liton Das was batting at 56 at that moment, with the Indian camp looking shellshocked with the onslaught.

While there was rain predicted during the day, the ground staff was certainly caught by surprise as it showered down at the Adelaide Oval. Players were taken off the field and Bangladesh were ahead of the DLS par score by 17 runs, a figure that brought back dreadful memories of 2007. The rain persisted for a while but eventually made way for play resume with Bangladesh needing 151 in 16 overs. Shakib and his men did not seem to happy about the rush to resume play and raised safety concerned but umpires had made a decision.

Bangladesh walked back onto the field more confident of the two sides but a brilliant throw from KL Rahul in the deep saw Liton Das walking back to the pavilion and the Bangladesh chase really hit a block. The Indian bowlers picked up wickets at regular intervals but it all boiled down to the last ball, where 7 runs were needed but India’s new death bowler arsenal; Arshdeep Singh, closed out a well deserved and achieved victory for team India.

With a win today, India have all but assured themselves of a spot in the top 2 unless the cricketing gods decide to be unkind.
