Pakistan successfully defended their total against the Netherlands in a thrilling match. Despite the Dutch team’s valiant effort, Pakistan managed to maintain their dominance. The Netherlands displayed impressive bowling skills, limiting Pakistan to a total of 286 runs.
Vikramjit Singh showcased his fluent batting style and capitalized on loose deliveries. Although O’Dowd and Ackermann couldn’t contribute much, Bas de Leede, a dependable player for the Netherlands, partnered effectively with Vikramjit, raising hopes for a historic chase. However, as Vikramjit fell while attempting to accelerate, de Leede continued to hold the fort.
Unfortunately, the Netherlands started losing wickets quickly at the other end, putting them under pressure. Three wickets fell in succession, and de Leede, after a well-made 67, was eventually dismissed. Despite Van Beek’s efforts to swing his bat, no other player made significant contributions, resulting in the Dutch falling short by 81 runs. Saud Shakeel earned the Player of the Match title for his remarkable 68 runs off 52 balls.
Rain played spoilsport in what could have turned out to be a cracking contest as the India-Pakistan Asia Cup Group A game was called off in Pallekele on Saturday. After a couple of brief interruptions during the India innings, the heavens opened up for a third time during the innings break delaying the start of the Pakistan chase. As the wait continued, persistent rains failed to budge down and the match was eventually called off at around 10:05 pm IST. Relentless rain didn’t allow a single ball to be bowled after India made 266 in 48.5 overs.

India vs Pakistan Match Highlights
Earlier in the game, after Rohit Sharma called it right and opted to put runs on the board, Pakistan pacers utilized their overcast conditions to their advantage, and India found themselves struggling at 66-4. Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya then got together and forged a solid recovery with a 138-run stand. Ishan’s 82 and Hardik’s 87 bailed India out of trouble, putting the pressure back on Pakistan. They were also helped by the bizarre tactic of Babar Azam not bringing the pacers on in the middle overs. However, just as India was setting themselves up for a strong finish, they were pegged back in quick succession by Pakistan’s pace trio. The departure of Pandya triggered a collapse, as India lost their last five wickets for just 27 runs. For Pakistan, their pacers took all 10 wickets, a feat achieved by any team in the Men’s Asia Cup for the very first time. India’s arch-nemesis Shaheen Afridi was the standout bowler with a four-wicket haul. Naseem Shah was unlucky not to get a wicket in his first spell but eventually ended up with three, while Haris Rauf accounted for three wickets as well.
Australia defeated Team India on day 5 of the World Test Championship Final 2023 to become the Champions. Travis Head was named player of the match for his sensational counter-attacking century in the first innings of the Test match.
Australia has become the second team after New Zealand to win the World Test Championship. Unfortunately, India is the only team to lose World Test Championship Final twice. Rohit and Co. would surely be disappointed with their performances.
According to a few reports, Rohit Sharma can be replaced soon as the Indian captain by Ajinkya Rahane in the longest format of the game. In T20s he is already being slowly replaced by Hardik Pandya as captain.
Coming back to the WTC Final, Australia posted a huge target of 444 runs for India to win the Test match in the fourth innings. However, the Indian batters could not fathom the pressure and faltered against the Australian attack.
Ravindra Jadeja hit a four off the last ball as Chennai Super Kings equalled Mumbai Indians’ record for most IPL titles. Sai Sudharsan had propelled Gujarat Titans to a score of 214/4 by smashing 96 off just 47 balls. The 23-year-old Chennai lad smashed eight fours and six sixes in his innings as he made the most of the death overs.
Earlier, Wriddhiman Saha scored 54 off 39 on a day when his prolific opening partner Shubman Gill was limited to a score of 39 off 20. Only slight drizzles appeared throughout the GT innings which didn’t cause stoppages of any kind. However, the stoppage came eventually after the third ball of the first over of the CSK innings with heavy rain pouring down at the stadium.
While the rain itself didn’t last long, it was the wet outfield, particularly a problematic practice pitch at the edge of the square that caused the biggest delay. Finally, the match got reduced to 15 overs and CSK’s target was revised to 171. The match eventually resumed and it has been a see-saw affair ever since.
Big hits from Devon Conway, Ajinkya Rahane, Shivam Dube and Ambati Rayudu helped CSK’s cause but Mohit Sharma came in with the important wickets whenever it looked like the opposition was running away with it.
Mohit bowled the last over as well and brought it down to CSK needing 10 to win off the last two balls. But Ravindra Jadeja ended up smashing the second last ball for a six and the last ball for a four to lead CSK to a five-wicket win and their fifth title.
Shubman Gill’s third century of the season helped Gujarat Titans score a mammoth 233/3 in 20 overs. Gill smashed 129 off 60 balls and a good finishing act from Hardik Pandya and Rashid Khan did the work for GT.
Despite the steep target, MI were kept on target for the first 10 overs thanks to some big hitting from Tilak Varma, Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav. SKY kept MI in the hunt after the 10th over as well but the five-time champions unraveled after he fell in the 15th over.
Mumbai folded for a score of 171 and the Titans thus became the third team after their opponents for the day and their opponents in the final to reach the title clash in consecutive seasons.
Gill earlier brought up his his fifth half century of the season in 32 balls. After that, he went berserk, smashing the MI bowlers all around the park almost nonchalantly throughout the middle overs.
He raced past his third century of the season in 49 balls after which he ended up accelerating even further. He ended up being dismissed for 129 off 60 balls, his innings punctuated by seven fours and a whopping 10 sixes.
Akash Madhwal produced a sensational bowling effort as Mumbai Indians defeated Lucknow Super Giants by 81 runs in the IPL 2023 Eliminator at Chepauk on Wednesday.
Madhwal scalped five wickets in 3.3 overs as Lucknow were bundled out for 101 in 16.3 overs in the 183-run chase. Mumbai will now lock horns with defending champions Gujarat Titans in Qualifier 2 at their home venue.
Apart from Madhwal’s clinical display, poor running between the wickets also haunted Lucknow during the stiff run chase. Marcus Stoinis, who scored 40 off 27 balls – the highest from LSG camp, Deepak Hooda and Krishnappa Gowtham lost their wickets in the form of run-out.
Earlier, a late blitz by Nehal Wadhera, who scored 23 off 12, helped Mumbai Indians pile a challenging 182/8 in 20 overs. Mumbai, who opted to bat, lost Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan early but the pair of Suryakumar Yadav and Cameron Green kept the team on track. The pair added 66 runs for the third wicket before Naveen-ul-Haq crashed Mumbai’s party and removed the duo in the 11th over. The Afghan pacer scalped four wickets, while Yash Thakur scalped three.
Chennai Super Kings are through to their 10th IPL final. They beat defending champions Gujarat Titans by 15 runs with the latter being all out for 157 chasing a target of 173.
CSK opener Ruturaj Gaikwad got a big let off early on when he was caught at midwicket in the second over and the delivery was declared a no ball. He capitalised on that lifeline, scoring 60 off 44 deliveries.
CSK’s opening pair stayed unbeaten in the first 10 overs but GT then clawed their way back. It was some lusty blows from Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu, Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali that pushed CSK to 172/7.
In response though, GT hardly got any momentum at any stage of their chase. All their big guns fell without making much of a dent while the biggest of them all, Shubman Gill, was kept silent by the GT bowlers. He ended up falling for 42 off 38 balls.
It looked like GT’s race was run when ace finisher Rahul Tewatia fell but Rashid Khan came in and smashed 30 off 16 balls to give his side a glimmer of hope. It was too much for him to do in the end though, and CSK booked a spot in the final.
Gujarat Titans clinched victory by six wickets in their final IPL 2023 league game and also knocked out Royal Challengers Bangalore, at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
Chasing a target of 198 runs, GT reached 198/4 in 19.1 overs with Shubman Gill smacking the winning six. Gill with the six, slamming an unbeaten knock of 104 runs off 52 balls, clobbering five fours and eight sixes.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Siraj took two wickets for RCB. Initially, the match was delayed due to rain and when it began, Virat Kohli singlehandedly took RCB to 197/5 in 20 overs, with a vintage 101* off 61 balls, packed with 13 fours and a maximum.
GT have already qualified for the playoffs and will end the league phase as table toppers.
Cameron Green and Akash Madhwal emerged as match-winners as Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by eight wins in the crucial IPL 2023 encounter at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.
The win has kept Mumbai alive in the play-offs race, while Rajasthan Royals, who were also in contention, have been eliminated. Coming back to the match, Green smashed an unbeaten ton, which came in 47 deliveries, as Mumbai completed the 201 chase with two overs to spare. Rohit Sharma too showed good form and scored 56(37) before Nitish Reddy grabbed a stunner to bring an end to his stay in the middle.
Earlier, Akash Madhwal led Mumbai’s fightback and picked four wickets to restrict Sunrisers Hyderabad at 200/5. SRH, who were invited to bat first, put on a strong show as the new opening pair of Vivrant Sharma and Mayank Agarwal added 140 runs for the opening wicket. Both the batters were dismissed by Madhwal as Vivrant scored 69(47), while Mayank smashed 46-ball 83.
Kolkata Knight Riders captain Nitish Rana won the toss and chose to bowl first. Lucknow Super Giants ended up getting off to a sluggish start, losing a wicket in the third over. However, Prerak Mankad helped them accelerate in the last two overs of the powerplay before falling in the seventh himself.
Vaibhav Arora took the wicket and he ended up getting the big wicket of Marcus Stoinis in the same over as well. LSG were soon in further trouble after captain Krunal Pandya and Quinton de Kock fell as well. However, Nicholas Pooran has come out swinging and his big hits helped set up a partnership of over 50 runs with Ayush Badoni.
LSG eventually scored 176/8 in 20 overs with Pooran scoring 58 runs in 30 balls. KKR got off to a flier with Venkatesh Iyer and Jason Roy smashing 61 runs in the first 5.5 overs. However, LSG put a break on the proceedings with their spinners taking the wickets of Roy, Iyer and captain Rana.
Andre Russell could not make a big impact but Rinku Singh kept KKR alive. He ended up scoring an unbeaten 67 off 33 balls and brought KKR within one run of the target. LSG have thus just about qualified for the playoffs while KKR’s race has been run in this year’s tournament.
