The Tamil Nadu state government has unveiled plans to construct the largest cricket stadium in India, to be located in Coimbatore. This ambitious project will mark Tamil Nadu’s second international-standard venue, following the renowned M.A. Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. The stadium is part of a broader initiative to enhance cricket infrastructure in the state, fulfilling a commitment made by Chief Minister MK Stalin during the April parliamentary elections.

State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa and Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development Udhayanidhi Stalin are leading the project, emphasizing its role in nurturing local talent and elevating Tamil Nadu’s status in the sports world.

Located approximately 16 km from Coimbatore city on NH 544, the new stadium is designed to set a new standard for cricket infrastructure in India. The facility will feature state-of-the-art amenities, including VIP and corporate suites, a players’ lounge, a media center, public cafeterias, restaurants, viewing galleries, and a cricket museum. It will also boast advanced training facilities such as an indoor practice area, specialized fielding zones, and a high-performance center.

The design draws inspiration from notable stadiums like Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium, Bengaluru’s M Chinnaswamy Stadium, and the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground in London. Additionally, the government plans to include research and rehabilitation facilities for players, umpires, technicians, and coaches, demonstrating Tamil Nadu’s commitment to advancing cricket beyond just hosting matches.
