The 2025 Champions Trophy is set to take place from 19 February to 9 March across Pakistan and the UAE. As the biggest ICC tournament of the year, it will feature eight teams, including India and Pakistan. While most teams have already announced their squads, the Indian team’s selection is still pending. According to media reports, Team India’s squad will be finalized after the conclusion of a domestic tournament. This means players who perform well in the tournament could secure a spot in the national team.

When Will Team India Be Announced for the Champions Trophy?

All teams were required to submit their provisional squads to the ICC by 12 January. While other teams have met the deadline, the BCCI requested additional time for India’s selection process. Reports suggest that India’s squad for the Champions Trophy will be announced after the final match of the Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Currently, three matches remain in the Vijay Hazare Trophy: the semifinals on 15 and 16 January and the final on 18 January. It is expected that the Indian team’s selection will take place a day after the final, on 19 January. BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla also hinted at this timeline during a recent AGM, mentioning that the selection committee meeting would likely happen on 18 or 19 January.

The Vijay Hazare Trophy is a 50-over format tournament, making it a fitting platform for selectors to evaluate players’ performances ahead of the Champions Trophy. Players who have impressed in the tournament are expected to be discussed during the selection meeting.

Players Who Could Make a Comeback

Karun Nair and Mayank Agarwal have been in stellar form during the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Both players have scored over 600 runs in the tournament. Mayank Agarwal has amassed 619 runs in eight matches at an average of 123.80, including four centuries and a half-century. Meanwhile, Karun Nair has scored 664 runs in just six innings at an astonishing average of 664.00, including five centuries, with four coming in consecutive matches.

Both players have been out of the Indian team for a while, but their exceptional performances in the Vijay Hazare Trophy have boosted their chances of making a comeback. The final squad announcement is eagerly awaited, as it could bring significant changes to Team India.
