Team India opener Ruturaj Gaikwad is part of the T20 team for the three-match T20 series against New Zealand which will be starting from 27 February.
However, just before the T20I Series, Ruturaj Gaikwad complained to the BCCI about wrist pain. Ruturaj Gaikwad is now at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru for further medical advice and treatment. Hence, there is high chance that he could be ruled out of the T20I series against New Zealand. Prithvi Shaw is expected to replace if he is deemed unfit for the series.
In case Gaikwad is unable to take the field because of injury, it could allow Prithvi Shaw to play for the country again.
A wrist injury earlier ruled out Gaikwad from the T20 series against Sri Lanka in July.
Ruturaj Gaikwad showed extraordinary form in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy where he slammed four hundreds in five games.
