Former Indian cricketer and father of Yuvraj Singh, Yograj Singh, has launched a scathing attack on the Indian selectors over the changes made to the national team after the 2011 ODI World Cup. In a media interview, Yograj accused the selectors of ruining the careers of key players who were part of India’s historic World Cup triumph.
India had won the 2011 World Cup after 28 years, with legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Virender Sehwag, Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Zaheer Khan playing pivotal roles. However, Yograj Singh claimed that soon after this victory, these very players were gradually shown the exit door. He alleged that the selectors ended their careers without any valid reason.
He said,
“Gautam Gambhir, Yuvraj Singh, Harbhajan Singh, and Zaheer Khan – all of them were sidelined in one stroke.”

Yograj Singh’s Claim About MS Dhoni
In the same interview, Yograj also claimed that former selector Mohinder Amarnath wanted to remove MS Dhoni from captaincy after India had lost five series in a row.
“There were talks of removing Dhoni, but this is not how a team should be run. The players who gave you the World Cup should have been given a respectful farewell.”
Yograj’s strong remarks highlight the lack of recognition and farewell for members of India’s golden generation, who were the backbone of the team for years. According to him, within 18 months of the 2011 World Cup win, most of these senior players were dropped from the team without dignity or acknowledgement.
