Pakistan’s left-arm pacer Wahab Riaz has entered politics as he has been named caretaker sports minister in the Punjab province.
Despite this, it must be noted that Wahab Riaz is still active on the cricket circuit. He is currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), and will take the oath after he returns to Pakistan.
Wahab last played for Pakistan in 2020. He served Pakistan in 27 Tests, 92 ODIs and 36 T20Is. He was retained by Peshawar Zalmi for this year’s PSL and it is expected that despite his appointment as sports minister he will fulfill his commitment to the side.
This is not the first time when a Pakistani cricketer has joined politics as former captain, Imran Khan has remained Prime Minister while another pacer, Sarfaraz Nawaz was an elected MNA and served as sports minister in the Benazir Bhutto government in the 90s.
