Selecting a squad of 15 talented players is never easy when you’re part of the Indian Cricket Selection Committee. It’s one of the toughest jobs in Indian cricket. Several young Indian cricketers have been in tremendous form recently, with the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and many others shining brightly. However, there are some players who have performed magnificently for the Indian cricket team over the last few years.

On September 5th, 2023, the BCCI announced the 15-member squad for the ODI World Cup 2023, with Rohit Sharma leading the Men in Blue. This marks his first stint as the captain in a 50-over World Cup. Jasprit Bumrah and Shreyas Iyer have made their way back into the squad after nearly a year-long injury break.

While India’s squad is undoubtedly strong, there may be some players who feel unfortunate to have missed out. Here, we highlight three unlucky players who missed out on a spot in the World Cup 2023.

    India Cricket Team

    1) Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has been India’s most prolific run-scorer in the ODI format, boasting an impressive average of 55.71 in 13 matches. He is indeed unfortunate not to be a part of India’s squad for the World Cup 2023. With KL Rahul returning to the squad, he is most likely to take on the role of wicketkeeper alongside Ishan Kishan.

    2) Yuzvendra Chahal

He is indeed one of the unluckiest Indian players ever. Since the 2019 World Cup in England, he hasn’t had the opportunity to participate in a single ICC event. He was dropped from the 2021 T20 World Cup squad and wasn’t selected for a single game in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Despite taking 21 wickets in the IPL 2023, Chahal remains unfortunate not to have been picked for the Cricket World Cup 2023.

    3) Ruturaj Gaikwad

Ruturaj Gaikwad is undeniably one of the most promising young talents in cricket, alongside players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill, and a select few others. As the primary batter for the Chennai Super Kings, he has excelled as a magnificent opener. His Ranji records stand out as the best among all the emerging cricketers of the new generation.
