Virat Kohli Sets Record as Fastest Player to Reach 27,000 Runs in International Cricket

In another significant milestone, Virat Kohli has solidified his place in cricket history by becoming the fastest player to reach 27,000 runs in international cricket. He achieved this remarkable feat in just 594 innings, surpassing the previous record held by Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar, who accomplished the milestone in 623 innings.

Kohli reached this landmark during the fourth day of the second Test against Bangladesh in Kanpur on Monday. His impressive tally includes 13,906 runs in 295 ODIs, 8,918 runs in Test cricket, and 4,188 runs in T20Is before announcing his retirement from the shortest format following India’s successful T20 World Cup campaign. In this match, he scored a brisk 47 runs off 35 balls before being dismissed by Shakib Al Hasan.

This achievement highlights Kohli’s exceptional consistency across all formats of the game and cements his status among cricket’s all-time greats. Known for his relentless determination and insatiable appetite for runs, Kohli’s dominance has lasted over a decade, during which he has set numerous records.

To provide perspective, Sachin Tendulkar, the previous record holder, is celebrated as one of the game’s most complete batsmen. He accumulated 27,000 runs in an illustrious career spanning 24 years, which included 100 international centuries. Following Tendulkar on the list is Sri Lanka’s Kumar Sangakkara, who reached the milestone in 648 innings, known for his elegance and precision. Ricky Ponting, the legendary Australian captain, completed his 27,000 runs in 650 innings, further establishing this achievement as a hallmark of cricket’s elite players.

For Kohli, surpassing these legends serves as a testament to his extraordinary ability to perform under pressure. From his early days as a promising talent in Indian cricket to becoming a celebrated figure worldwide, Kohli’s journey has been marked by discipline, fitness, and an unwavering commitment to excellence.

As Kohli approaches the latter stages of his career, he remains a crucial player for Team India. Fans and analysts believe there are still more records within his reach, as the legendary cricketer shows no signs of slowing down.
