Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has yet to unveil its 15-member squad for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India, set to begin next month. Despite rumors about Dasun Shanaka’s resignation as the ODI captain, it seems he will remain in his role. However, SLC faces a pressing concern involving star all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga.
Hasaranga, instrumental in Sri Lanka’s qualification for the World Cup 2023, is currently in rehabilitation. Unfortunately, reports suggest that he suffered another injury during this period, potentially jeopardizing his participation in the tournament. The selectors are anxiously awaiting updates on Hasaranga’s fitness as the squad announcement deadline looms.
The Sri Lankan team is scheduled to depart for India on September 26. Hasaranga, a player for RCB, sustained his recent injury while performing brilliantly in the Lanka Premier League (LPL) 2023, where he topped both the run-scoring (279) and wicket-taking (19) charts. Additionally, spinner Maheen Theekshana’s fitness remains uncertain after he suffered an injury during the Asia Cup 2023.
