India’s left-arm pacer and the rising star Arshdeep Singh’s performance is commendable in this edition of the T20 World Cup. His abilities to swing the ball and consistent Yorkers at the death overs make him a really good left-arm pacer which India wanted for many years after Zaheer Khan and Ashish Nehra who can be reliable at both ends.
However, Arshdeep Singh was criticized for his performance in the Asia Cup and for his dropped catch some people even called him Khalistan as well. But the team management believed in Arshdeep Singh and considered him for the tournament and in absence of Bumrah he took the initiative too.
His calm and composed attitude even in the crucial overs made him a different player from others. Taking crucial wickets in the powerplay as Arshdeep Singh did against Pakistan when he dismissed Babar on his first ball or him dismissing Rilee Rossouw both showed how he can swing the ball on both sides of the wicket.
But later in an interview with Irfan Pathan, He said “My focus was always on consistency. You cannot afford to give too many loose balls at the international level. I want to be good while bowling with the new and old balls. I want to pick wickets or control runs as needed,” later after the game against South Africa Arshdeep Singh credits his success to senior pace bowling partner Bhuvneshwar Kumar who may not have taken many wickets but his relentless pressure in powerplay makes things easier for him to get wickets.
