Delhi Capitals had a fairly decent run in IPL 2025, but the team failed to secure a spot in the playoffs. They started the season on a strong note but suffered consecutive defeats in the middle, which ultimately cost them a place in the top four. While some players stood out with their performances, others couldn’t deliver as expected. Interestingly, one player bought for a massive ₹11 crore ended up playing only two matches. Now, the head coach of Delhi Capitals has revealed the reason behind this surprising move.
Hemang Badani Breaks Silence
The player in question is left-arm pacer T. Natarajan. He was featured in just two matches during IPL 2025. Hemang Badani, who is part of the Delhi Capitals coaching staff, explained the decision during commentary in the Tamil Nadu Premier League.
He said, “Why would we spend ₹11 crore on a player just to keep him on the bench? We brought Natarajan into the squad specifically to bowl in the middle and death overs.”
Coach Badani pointed to fitness concerns, stating, “Even after recovering from injury, he wasn’t fully fit. He struggled with fitness throughout the season, which is why we couldn’t give him more opportunities. Had he been fully fit, we would’ve definitely played him more.”
