Women’s CWC 2022: New Zealand Vanquished Pakistan

New Zealand Women thoroughly defeated Pakistan Women by 71 runs in what probably would be the last match for both teams in the Women’s Cricket World Cup 2022.

New Zealand, the host, was one of the favourites to qualify for the top four before the tournament commenced. However, the current scenarios at the group stage almost guarantee that the Kiwis would not be eligible for the semi-finals.

On the other hand, Pakistan had no hopes at all coming into their final match of the tournament. They have only won one game in their entire Women’s World Cup campaign. Pakistan sits at the last position in the points table with nothing to boast of.

Here’s how the match panned out:

Pakistan Women won the toss and opted to bowl first at Hagley Oval in Christchurch. New Zealand Women gladly accepted the offer to bat first and notched up 265 runs in their innings to put Pak under immense pressure.

Kiwi opener Bates scored a brilliant

hundred and scored 126 off 135, including 14 boundaries. She played as an anchor for almost the entirety of the innings and guided her team to the massive total. Other than Bates, no other New Zealand batter crossed 30 runs; for Pakistan, Nida Dar was the pick of the bowlers. She dismissed 3 Kiwi batters to continue her great individual performances at ICC Women’s CWC 2022.

Chasing 266, Pakistan Women could not attain control at any point. Hannah Rowe took a fifer to obliterate the Pakistani batting line-up. Pakistan kept losing wickets at regular intervals and failed to materialize the partnerships of substance in the innings. Nida Dar performed with the bat as well for Pakistan and scored fifty in just 53 balls. However, she did not get any support from others to take her team to victory.
