World Cup 2023: Who Will Replace Glenn Maxwell in Australia Squad? 3 Potential Replacements

Glenn Maxwell was injured at a golf centre

Glenn Maxwell is one of the most destructive batters and a handy off spinner for Australia in the ongoing ICC ODI World Cup 2023. He recently blasted the fastest ever century in World Cup history. Maxwell’s all-round abilities have been a great asset to the Australians.

However, the Aussie star suffered a major setback in a freak golf accident. He reportedly injured his head and could miss out the entire tournament. Maxwell reportedly slipped and fell off the back of the cart as per the recent report. The extent of his injury is still being monitored and a final decision about his participation in the rest of the tournament is yet to be made. However, if Maxwell needs to be replaced then below are a few possible replacements that Australia might look at.

1. Ashton Agar

Ashton Agar was ruled out of the ICC ODI World Cup 2023 just before the start of the tournament due to an injury. However, he has fully recovered and is ready to play the game for Australia. He is an all-rounder who can strengthen both the bowling and batting of Australia. Although, he is not as fiery as Maxwell when it comes to batting but he is a handy player to have.

2. Matthew Wade

Matthew Wade is a wicketkeeper left-handed batter who has emerged as one of the best finishers for Australia in the recent World Cups. He could prove to be a great replacement for Glenn Maxwell with his ability to play unorthodox shots and accumulate runs at a rapid pace in the death overs.

3. Tim David

Tim David is a young finisher from Australia who could also bowl one or two overs. He is being groomed as the next big thing in the Australian cricket. His batting in the final few overs is ideal for a tournament like World Cup. He could be a like to like replacement for Glenn Maxwell in the ongoing tournament.
