KL Rahul is battling with an injury and is on the road to recovery. However, his participation in the Cricket World Cup 2023 is quite doubtful. Since Rahul is a wicketkeeper batter he needs much more time to get back to his best in the keeping department. His form is also in the question as he failed to do anything impactful in the recently concluded Indian Premier League.
Rahul has good record at number five for India but India won’t look to play him as a specialist batter. They need him to keep the wickets as well but it seems that would be too much of an ask from Rahul as he is just recovering from an injury.
Recently, Rohit Sharma opined on KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer’s injury. He said that it won’t be easy for any of them to start over quite quickly. The emotional and physical toll of an Injury takes time to heal and Rahul and Iyer are not going to get a lot of match time before World Cup 2023.

Former Indian Cricket Team coach, Ravi Shastri also said that India should start looking at alternatives as it would be too much of an ask from Rahul to keep the wickets and bat at five just after the injury. He suggested to pick either Ishan Kishan or Sanju Samson in his place for the World Cup.
BCCI is expected to announce the squad for Asia Cup 2023 squad by 25th August 2023. If Rahul and Iyer manage to find a spot in this squad then they will be in contention for World Cup 2023. However, first they need to pass a fitness test on 18th August 2023.
The deadline for submitting the provisional squad list for Cricket World Cup is 5th September 2023. Australia, England Pakistan have already unveiled their provisional squads.
