WTC 2023 Final Day 1: Sourav Ganguly’s Prediction Materializes as Indian Bowlers Struggle in the First Session

India falls short of Rohit Sharma's target of four wickets before lunch in the World Test Championship Final.

During the first session of the World Test Championship Final, India managed to dismiss Usman Khawaja and David Warner. However, the bowlers failed to fully capitalize on the overcast conditions, leading to Sourav Ganguly’s prediction about Rohit Sharma proving accurate.

Among the bowlers, Mohammed Siraj posed the greatest threat and claimed the wicket of Khawaja. Shardul Thakur also impressed by dismissing the dangerous Warner. However, Mohammed Shami and Umesh Yadav delivered ordinary performances.

Ganguly had earlier stated that Rohit Sharma would only be satisfied if the bowlers took four wickets before lunch. He emphasized that Australia would be content with losing just two wickets.

“If I were Rohit, my target would be four wickets before lunch, and anything less than that would make me unhappy. Australia would feel nice if they lost two wickets,” expressed Ganguly.

Sourav’s words rang true as Pat Cummins’ team reached a total of 73/2 in 23 overs, falling short of Rohit Sharma’s desired outcome.
