Ravi Shastri, the former head coach of the Indian cricket team, praised Ajinkya Rahane for his impressive batting performance in India’s first innings during the World Test Championship final against Australia. Rahane played with freedom and clear thinking as he scored a gutsy 89, emerging as the highest scorer for India in the innings at The Oval in London.
Rahane’s innings was crucial in helping India avoid the follow-on and reach a respectable first innings total of 296. He formed a crucial partnership of 109 runs with lower-order batsman Shardul Thakur, rescuing India from a difficult situation.

Shastri commended Rahane for his beautiful batting, highlighting his tactics and clarity of thought right from the start. Rahane effectively balanced caution and aggression, constantly looking for scoring opportunities. Shastri also noted that Rahane’s positive approach had a positive impact on Thakur as well, resulting in a fabulous partnership.
Shastri mentioned that Rahane had shown resilience by continuing to play domestic cricket and waiting for his opportunity. The IPL (Indian Premier League) had played a significant role in liberating Rahane, allowing him to step out of his comfort zone and play with freedom. Rahane’s natural game is now on display without any mental barriers, according to Shastri.
