    Yashasvi Jaiswal Creates History in Test Cricket, Surpasses Sachin and Virat

    Indian opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal added another record to his name during the Edgbaston Test. He matched the feats of former Indian captain Rahul Dravid and legendary opener Virender Sehwag, while leaving behind icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli. Jaiswal achieved this remarkable milestone during India’s second innings in the Edgbaston Test. He has now become the second-youngest Indian to reach this landmark in Test cricket.

    What Record Did Yashasvi Jaiswal Break?

    Yashasvi Jaiswal has become the joint-fastest Indian to reach 2,000 Test runs in terms of innings played. He achieved this feat in just his 40th innings, equalling the record held by Rahul Dravid and Virender Sehwag. The milestone came when Jaiswal reached his 10th run in the second innings of the Edgbaston Test. Although he couldn’t play a long innings and was dismissed for 28 off 22 balls, he had earlier scored a solid 87 runs in the first innings.

    Dravid reached the 2,000-run mark in Hamilton against New Zealand in 1999, while Sehwag did so in Chennai against Australia in 2004 — both also in their 40th innings.

    Achieved in 21st Test Match

    So far, Yashasvi Jaiswal has scored 2,018 runs in 40 innings across 21 Test matches at an impressive average of 53.10, including 5 centuries and 11 half-centuries. With this feat, he has surpassed former Indian greats like Vijay Hazare and Gautam Gambhir, who reached the 2,000-run mark in 43 innings. Star batter Virat Kohli is much further down the list, having taken 53 innings to reach 2,000 runs in Tests.

    Second-Youngest Indian to Reach 2,000 Test Runs

    Jaiswal has also become the second-youngest Indian player to reach 2,000 runs in Test cricket. He accomplished this at the age of 23 years and 188 days. Only the legendary Sachin Tendulkar achieved this milestone at a younger age — 20 years and 330 days.

    Yashasvi Jaiswal continues to rise rapidly in Test cricket, setting new records and cementing his place among India’s brightest young talents.
