Zimbabwe is set to face Ireland in a three-match ODI series. Having faced a defeat against Ireland early in the T20I series, Zimbabwe is determined to stage a comeback in the ODIs. Zimbabwe’s recent ODI engagement dates back to the ICC World Qualifiers hosted in June-July of this year, where they had a disappointing performance on home soil, resulting in their failure to qualify for the marquee tournament in India.
In their last ODI encounter, they suffered a 31-run loss to Scotland. Since then, Zimbabwe has primarily participated in T20Is. Before the ongoing series against Ireland, they also took part in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa qualifiers.
The ODI clash between Zimbabwe and Ireland is scheduled to take place at the Harare Sports Club on December 13. Despite facing an initial setback in the T20I series against Zimbabwe, Ireland orchestrated a commendable comeback, securing consecutive victories to win the series 2-1. Unlike their counterparts, Ireland has been involved in ODI action since the World Cup qualifiers.
In a three-match series against England, Ireland faced challenges as two of the matches were abandoned due to rainfall. Despite the weather interruptions, England emerged victorious in the remaining game, securing a 48-run win and claiming the series with a 1-0 lead. The Irish team is now eager to commence their ODI series against Zimbabwe with a positive start.
