Shubman Gill’s latest century in the third T20I against New Zealand has solidified his position as a top-performing batter in India’s international cricket scene. The 63-ball 126, featuring 12 fours and 7 sixes, led India to a decisive victory and a series win.
However, former Indian player Irfan Pathan, while impressed with Gill’s performance, remains uncertain about his Test cricket prowess. Pathan believes that Gill still can’t surpass the established openers, Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul, in the red-ball format.
“Gill has certainly established himself in ODIs and T20Is, but it would be unfair to oust Sharma or Rahul simply because of his success in the 50-over format,” said Pathan.
Shubman Gill is part of India’s squad for the first two Tests against Australia, and it remains to be seen if he can prove Irfan Pathan wrong.
