It has been five months since Jasprit Bumrah last played for India. Bumrah has been struggling with a back injury and is currently rehabilitating at the NCA in Bengaluru.

After not getting named in the squads for the Test and the ODI Series against Australia, the  fast bowler is now set to return directly for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2023.

Considering his injury, BCCI could monitor Jasprit Bumrah’s fitness during the IPL, including how many overs he bowls in the nets, taking a cautious approach with the WTC Final and the 2023 World Cup later this.

While it is unclear if Mumbai Indians would appreciate the interference, Rohit will have no problems given he is the captain. Alongside Bumrah, the selectors had handpicked 20 cricketers for special monitoring during the IPL. Whether the same applies to them remains to be seen.

“NCA will be in touch with all franchises but there is no specific workload management plan for Bumrah. See, all franchises know how to deal with the players’ workload well. Bumrah is important not just for MI but also for India. The franchise knows that and they will keep his workload in check. We hope to see him return as soon as he is fit before the WTC final,” a BCCI official told InsideSport.
