In a shocking announcement on 24th March, two days before the sports festival Tata IPL commences, CSK, the defending champions, have announced that Ravindra Jadeja will take over the captaincy role from MS Dhoni.
Jadeja will only be the third captain to lead Chennai Super Kings after MS Dhoni and Suresh Raina. Fans all over the world are anguished and bewildered about the decision from CSK management. The Yellove Army is disappointed that they will not be able to see the master tactician Dhoni handle the reins of their beloved Super Kings beginning this season.

CSK has clarified that this by no means signals that Dhoni is retiring from T20s. The decision was purely based on the franchise’s future, with Dhoni quickly approaching the mid-40s. It was imperative to find a replacement sooner or later.
Ravindra Jadeja, the star left-handed batting all-rounder, will be trained on-field by ‘Captain Cool’ to bring more glory to the franchise in the future. MS Dhoni has backed Jadeja since his early days at the international level and once again has shown faith in him by trusting him to lead a side that he has built over so many years.
MS Dhoni has led Chennai Super Kings in 204 matches so far with 121 wins, 82 losses and a match without any results. Dhoni’s winning percentage touches almost 60, which is highly impressive in this format of the game.
The most successful captain in the Indian Premier League, MS Dhoni, has left a huge legacy behind in his stint as skipper for CSK. Will Jadeja be able to fill the shoes of one of the greatest captains ever the world has seen in cricket? The answer to this question relies on patience and very soon will be apparent in IPL 2022.
