The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) have welcomed back their star player and South African skipper, Aiden Markram, ahead of their second Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). Markram was unable to participate in the opening match against the Rajasthan Royals as he was representing his country in the rescheduled ODI series against the Netherlands.
Markram has been named as the new captain of the SRH team, and his presence will undoubtedly add more firepower to the middle order. The right-handed batter has been in excellent form recently, scoring a stunning 175 runs in the third ODI against the Netherlands. Markram was previously captain of the Sunrisers Eastern Cape, leading them to their first trophy in the inaugural edition of the SA20 league.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad took to Twitter to share pictures of Markram and his fellow teammates, including Marco Jansen and Heinrich Klassen, who have also joined the squad. In a video shared on social media, Markram is seen addressing his team for the first time as the new captain, highlighting the team’s strengths and the importance of teamwork.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad secured Markram for INR 2.6 crores in the IPL 2022 mega auction. Last season, Markram scored an impressive 381 runs in 14 matches with an average of 47.63 and a strike rate of 139.05. In addition, he showcased his all-around abilities in the SA20 league, scoring 366 runs and taking 11 wickets at an economy rate of 6.19.
