MI vs RR at DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai finally turned into a game that the five-time champions won to secure their first victory in the ongoing tournament.

Mumbai Indians successfully restricted Rajasthan Royals to a below-par total in the game before Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma ensured that the team registered its first win after 8 consecutive losses.

    MI vs RR Highlights:

Rohit Sharma won the toss on his birthday and opted to field first. He announced a few changes in the playing XI, including the debutant Kumar Kartikeya.

    Playing XIs:

MI: Ishan Kishan (wk), Rohit Sharma (c), Tim David, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Kieron Pollard, Hrithik Shokeen, Daniel Sams, Jasprit Bumrah, Kumar Kartikeya, Riley Meredith

RR: Jos Buttler, Devdutt Padikkal, Sanju Samson (c & wk), Daryl Mitchell, Shimron Hetmyer, Riyan Parag, Ravichandran Ashwin, Trent Boult, Prasidh Krishna, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Sen

    RR Inning:

Rajasthan Royals did not get the start they would have hoped for. Devdutt Padikkal and Sanju Samson could not contribute much to the game. Padikkal scored 15, while Samson managed 16 runs.

Jos Buttler was again tasked with getting RR to a good competitive total. He combined with Daryl Mitchell to form a crucial partnership. However, the kiwi batter looked out of touch and scored 17 off 20, which put much more pressure on Buttler.

Shimron Hetmyer was also ineffective for the first time as he could only gather 6 runs of the 14 balls he faced. Buttler stayed till the 16th over and notched up 67 off 52. In the end, Ravi Ashwin’s fiery approach helped RR post a score of 158/6 in the 20 overs.

    MI Inning:

Mumbai Indians were expecting Rohit Sharma to fire on his birthday, but the dream could not be realised as the Hitman scored measly 2 runs off 5 balls. Ishan Kishan looked positive for the first time in the tournament before departing on 26 off 18.

Suryakumar Yadav and Tilak Varma formed a solid stand for the third wicket that almost guaranteed Mumbai Indians’ win. Yadav scored 51 off 39, while Tilak contributed 35 off 30.

Kieron Pollard’s dismal run in the Tata IPL 2022 continued. Pollard played a sluggish knock of 10 off 14. However, a few boundaries from Tim David in the death overs ensured that Mumbai crossed the finish line comfortably.
