Ravi Shastri, the former Indian cricketer and head coach, has praised Sanju Samson, the captain of the Rajasthan Royals, for his impressive leadership during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. Following the Rajasthan Royals’ 32-run victory over the Chennai Super Kings, Shastri compared Samson’s captaincy style to that of MS Dhoni, the Chennai Super Kings’ captain.
Shastri highlighted Samson’s calm and composed demeanor and his ability to communicate well with his players, adding that the young captain will only improve with more experience. “Sanju has similar qualities to MS Dhoni,” Shastri said in an interview with Cricinfo.

Shastri commended Samson’s batting performances in the last two games and described him as an instinctive leader. He also noted that despite not expressing it verbally, Samson was unhappy with his team’s batting effort in their previous two games and believed that they could have won the matches.
