CSK was defeated by Rajasthan Royals in the inaugural season of the competition in 2008. Since then, the Yellow Brigade has won four IPL titles and finished fourth four times. CSK won back-to-back championships under MS Dhoni in 2010 and 2011, but fell short in 2012, 2013, and 2015. The Dad’s Army, as they were dubbed in 2018, won the IPL for the third time after serving a two-year suspension. A year later, CSK was defeated by MI in a thrilling IPL final in Hyderabad. CSK last appeared in the final in 2021, when they won the trophy after defeating two-time champions Kolkata Knight Riders.
