Australia’s coach, Andrew McDonald, praised Cameron Green’s ability to adapt quickly and emphasized the difficulty of switching between formats as Green prepares to join the Test squad in the United Kingdom for the World Test Championship.

Australia exhaled a sigh of relief after all-rounder Cameron Green escaped serious injury during the second IPL 2023 Qualifier against Gujarat Titans and Mumbai Indians.

Green was injured by Hardik Pandya’s scorching delivery, forcing him to retire, but he returned to the field after receiving treatment. Pandya’s 146 kph delivery in the second over of the Mumbai Indians’ chase struck Green slightly below his left elbow. The physio initially treated him on the pitch before he was forced to leave.

Cameron Green, on the other hand, quickly recovered in the seventh inning with his forearm wrapped up and showed no signs of pain as he smacked two sixes in a 30-run inning. Unfortunately, Josh Little ejected him in the 12th over, jeopardizing MI’s pursuit at a crucial juncture. Despite Suryakumar Yadav’s heroics, Mumbai Indians were unable to reach 233, effectively ending their IPL season.

Cameron Green’s return to the crease gave Australia hope, as the young all-rounder’s contribution to the Test team has been critical. He was greatly missed during the first two matches against India and the final Test against South Africa last year due to a finger injury.

As Cameron Green prepares to join the Test squad in the UK for the World Test Championship, coach Andrew McDonald noted the difficulty of switching between formats and praised Green’s ability to adapt quickly.

“The challenge for Cameron Green now is as he starts to become a three-format player is how he focuses [on] that, shifts between formats, and he’s going to have another challenge in front of him going deep into the IPL finals to get ready for the World Test Championship match, So that will be a challenge for him, but he’s a fast learner and every hurdle he’s got over so far,” McDonald told SEN Radio.
