The BCCI and PCB can be seen arguing over Asia Cup 2023. Jay Shah, BCCI secretary and ACC President, has stated that the Asia Cup 2023 will not be held in Pakistan, and that the tournament will be held in Sri Lanka (*neutral venue). Jay Shah stated unequivocally that the Indian government’s decision to not travel to Pakistan for the Asia Cup 2023.

The tournament appears unlikely to be held in Pakistan. According to sources, the stakeholders and sponsors are not interested in staging the event in Pakistan due to security concerns.

Pakistan has not hosted the Asia Cup since 2008, when Sri Lanka triumphed against all odds. PCB Chairman Najam Sethi proposed a hybrid model in which a few matches would be played in Pakistan, which ACC members reportedly rejected.

PCB has threatened to withdraw from the ODI World Cup 2023 if India does not come to Pakistan for the Asia Cup in 2023. The ICC must find a middle ground because the two countries have a strong pedigree; we saw in T20 WC 2021 and T20 WC 2022 how the entire World Cricket was on their feet after a thrilling finish.

The Asia Cup 2023, which is tentatively scheduled for September, is expected to serve as a warm-up for the marquee ODI World Cup 2023. If Pakistan refuses to participate in the Asia Cup 2023, the UAE will qualify because they were finalists in the ACC Premiere Cup.

After the Special General Meeting (SGM) of the Board Of Control For Cricket In India (BCCI) today (27th May), Jay Shah spoke with reporters and stated that the fate of the Asia Cup 2023 will be decided after a meeting with ACC members. Members of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan will compete in the IPL 2023 final in Ahmedabad.

“The future of the Asia Cup 2023 will be decided once we have a meeting with the ACC members (Test playing nations) and the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) which will be held almost after a week or so,” said Jay Shah.
