With the ICC World Test Championship final against India looming, David Warner, Australia’s opening batsman, is brimming with confidence and determination. Having diligently worked on his technique and performance in the nets following his return from injury, Warner has rediscovered his fluidity and is eager to make a significant impact in the prestigious event.

Warner’s career has witnessed a few setbacks due to injuries, leading to missed matches and a temporary dip in form. However, the resilient cricketer remains upbeat and focused, firmly stating his ambition to score runs for his team in the crucial WTC final.

While Warner’s Test record boasts over 8000 runs at an impressive average of 45.57 in 103 matches, his performances in England have been less exceptional. During the 2019 Ashes, he struggled against Stuart Broad, managing only 95 runs in 10 innings. However, it’s important to remember that Warner is a class act, capable of thriving under any circumstances. His ability to single-handedly guide Australia to victory has been demonstrated time and again, making him an invaluable asset for the upcoming Ashes series.

Warner’s previous visit to England for the Ashes witnessed a significant decline in his form, as he averaged a modest 26.04, scoring 651 runs. This was a far cry from his remarkable Test records in other nations. Among the visitors, he had the second-lowest batting average, highlighting the challenge he faced. However, Warner is determined to put those struggles behind him and return to his formidable best.

In a recent interview with Cricket Australia, Warner credited his participation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for helping him prepare for the Test matches in England. He expressed satisfaction with his footwork and energy, describing his recent net form as the best he has ever experienced.

“I’ve actually been superb in terms of my feet moving, my energy’s been moving, and I’ve been up and about. I’ve come off the IPL, and in that format, you have to look to score, and I think that’s held me in good stead for this (Test) preparation. I’m still looking to score,” Warner confidently shared.

Reflecting on his previous struggles, Warner attributed them to deviating from his game plan and listening to external voices that didn’t align with his natural approach. However, he believes he rediscovered his best form during the Leeds Test, where he adhered to his intent-driven style of play.
