India managed to salvage some pride on Day 3 as Ajinkya Rahane and Shardul Thakur displayed a brave partnership for the seventh wicket. Together, they scored 109 runs off 145 balls and ensured that India lost only one wicket in the first session.

However, their stand was cut short in the second session when Rahane was dismissed by Pat Cummins for 89, thanks to a remarkable catch at gully by Cameron Green. Thakur fought valiantly and reached a half-century but was eventually dismissed by Green on 51. India’s innings concluded at 296, with Australia taking a substantial first-innings lead of 173 runs.

In Australia’s innings, Mohammed Siraj and Mohammed Shami made an immediate impact by dismissing David Warner early. Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja weathered their challenging 11-over spell before Tea, with Australia ending the session at 23/1.

Khawaja fell shortly after the break, followed by Steve Smith, who had formed a solid partnership of 62 runs with Labuschagne. Just when it seemed Australia had gained complete control, Smith attempted a big shot against Jadeja and lost his wicket. Travis Head also fell quickly, failing to contribute significant runs. Cameron Green and Labuschagne then guided Australia to stumps, although scoring runs remained difficult. Australia finished the day at 123/4, holding a commanding lead of 296 runs.
