During a media interview on Wednesday, Ashraf initially rejected the hybrid model, leading to debates about whether discussions regarding the specifics of the Asia Cup 2023 would have to be reopened. Ashraf shared his personal opinion that he did not find the hybrid model beneficial for Pakistan and did not approve of it. He believed that as the host country, Pakistan should have negotiated better to ensure that the entire tournament took place in Pakistan. He expressed concern over Sri Lanka receiving the majority of the matches while Pakistan was left with only four games, as he believed it was not in the best interest of their country.

Nevertheless, Ashraf acknowledged that the decision had been made, and he would not block or show any intention to disregard it. He acknowledged the commitment made and stated that moving forward, all decisions would be made in the best interest of Pakistan.
