In their preparations for the upcoming ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Team India aims to secure the series as they face Australia in the second ODI at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore on Sunday, September 24. Under the leadership of KL Rahul, India comfortably won the first ODI against Pat Cummins-led Australia at the PCA Stadium in Mohali on Friday, September 22, taking a 1-0 lead in the series.
Mohammed Shami’s exceptional five-wicket haul bundled out Australia for a below-par total of 276 on a flat Mohali pitch. The opening pair of Shubman Gill and Ruturaj Gaikwad, both scoring fifties, played a crucial role by sharing a 142-run partnership, positioning India well in the run chase.
Gill was the top scorer with 74 runs off 63 balls, enjoying his first international match in front of his home crowd, while Gaikwad contributed 71 runs off 77 balls. However, it was Captain KL Rahul (remaining unbeaten with 58 runs off 63 balls) and Suryakumar Yadav (scoring 50 runs off 49 balls) who ensured India successfully reached the target with 8 balls to spare.
