In a significant turn of events, Axar Patel has been ruled out of the final ODI against Australia, posing a major setback for Team India. The spin all-rounder, who also missed the first two ODIs, is yet to recover from his persistent injury woes. This development has significant implications, not only for the ongoing series but also for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India.

    Axar Patel’s Lingering Injury Woes

Axar Patel’s prolonged injury concerns have cast a shadow over his immediate cricketing prospects. The left-arm spinner missed the initial two ODIs against Australia due to ongoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore. His absence from the Asia Cup 2023 finals against Sri Lanka in Colombo raised concerns about his fitness ahead of the upcoming World Cup.

Hopes Pinned on World Cup Recovery

Despite the setback, there is optimism that Axar Patel will regain full fitness in time for the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. India’s campaign in the tournament is scheduled to commence on October 8, with a clash against Australia at the Chepauk Stadium in Chennai. Patel’s recovery will be closely monitored as the team management looks to finalize its squad for the mega event.

    Ravichandran Ashwin: A Contingency Plan

In case if Axar Patel is unable to recover in time for the World Cup, the team management has a contingency plan in place. Ravichandran Ashwin, is a viable option to fill the void left by Patel’s absence. Ashwin has showcased his prowess in the ongoing series against Australia, delivering standout performances in the first two ODIs, where he secured four wickets.

Ashwin’s notable performance at the Holkar Stadium in Indore saw him claim three wickets in just seven balls, underlining his match-winning potential. Additionally, Washington Sundar, who was called in as a replacement for Axar Patel during the Asia Cup finals, could also be considered as an alternative. Both these players have potential to replace Axar Patel.

India’s Dominance in the ODI Series against Australia

The change in personnel comes amid India’s commanding performance in the ODI series against Australia. The team clinched the series victory after securing wins in the first two ODIs in Mohali and Indore. India’s triumph in the second ODI, achieved through the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method (DLS), highlighted their dominance over the Australian side.

With the opportunity to complete a whitewash, Team India is gearing up for the final ODI at the Saurashtra Cricket Stadium in Rajkot. The team will aim to maintain its winning momentum and continue its stellar performance in the series.

Final Squad Adjustments for the World Cup

It’s worth noting that India can make adjustments to its 15-member squad for the World Cup until September 28th. The final decision regarding Axar Patel’s participation in the World Cup will hinge on his recovery progress in the coming days.

The cricketing fraternity will be closely monitoring Axar Patel’s rehabilitation and the ensuing selection decisions, as Team India prepares for the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The tournament promises to be a showcase of the world’s best talent, and India’s squad composition will play a pivotal role in determining their prospects on the global stage.
