With expectations high, VVS Laxman, currently at the helm of the National Cricket Academy (NCA), is poised to step in as the head coach for the upcoming IND vs AUS T20 series. The potential move comes as Rahul Dravid is set to take a break post the ODI World Cup 2023 Final.
The India squad for the upcoming IND vs AUS T20 series remains undisclosed, with just one week left until the commencement of the five-match series against Australia. The BCCI selection committee has opted not to reveal the squad, possibly to maintain focus on the ongoing World Cup campaign, culminating in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Final between India and Australia on Sunday.
According to a report by InsideSport the announcement of the India squad for the IND vs AUS T20 series is slated to take place after the conclusion of the Cricket World Cup final. Due to Hardik Pandya’s injury, Suryakumar Yadav is expected to lead the Indian team in the T20I series. Ruturaj Gaikwad, who guided India to a gold medal victory in the Asian Games 2023, is also a strong contender for the captaincy in the IND vs AUS T20 series.
In addition to Ruturaj Gaikwad, players such as Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Sanju Samson, and other members of India’s Asian Games 2023 squad are likely to be part of the India squad for the T20 series against Australia.
VVS Laxman, the head of the National Cricket Academy, has prior coaching experience with the Indian squad during the Asian Games, where India secured the Gold Medal. Having personally collaborated with Rahul Dravid, any coaching transition is expected to be smooth, minimizing differences in approach. He has also served as the coach for the Indian team during the series held in Zimbabwe.
